House of the Rising Sun – Japan Enhancement
Overhaul to the Meiji Restoration with Quality of Life improvements to guide players through a blind playthrough as Japan.
NEW IN THIS VERSION – The Tozama and the Fudai
The Aristocracy will schism over the question of reforming Japan once Japan is forced to open to the world. This will cause the Petite Bourgeoisie to gain disaffected Aristocrats, which will allow them to act as a vanguard for the Restoration, advocating for more modern reforms but still very strict and centralized authority. Once the restoration is complete, the schism will mend and the fate of Japan will flow naturally to the other interest groups, by which point the Aristocracy will be much weaker.
NEW IN THIS VERSION – IG Traits
New more thematically appropriate Interest Group traits will be created and dynamically assigned to Japan over the course of the game.
POPULATION
Japan’s population growth hits employment capacity in subsistence farms very quickly and causes unrealistic mass unemployment in the mid-game that is impossible to build out of. Raising the employment cap means overpopulation will more realistically manifest in rising food prices rather than unemployment.
COLONIZATION
Japan will start without colonization law, and with Hokkaido unincorporated and without a homeland, to discourage the player from integrating it as a state without first letting settlers migrate to it. Losing the migration pull too soon can make it hard to fully exploit Hokkaido’s natural resources. The Journal will gently guide the player to managing the Hokkaido colony until it is ready to integrate, and a new unique company can boost migration if the player is unfortunate enough to miss the Gold Rushes.
USER INTERFACE
Before the Restoration is complete, two tips will appear in the Journal to help the player know how they can weaken the Landowners and correctly time the Restoration for the emperor they desire.
