Ganz-Hunslet G2

This sleek looking beauty is the Ganz-Hunslet G2, a hungarian metro trainset.
In early 1980, Hungary’s government started looking for a replacement for their Soviet Metrovagonmas metros.
One of the firms contacted was LEW Hemmingsdorf in East Germany, who had produced the very successful HEV trainsets earlier.
When neither LEW Hemmingsdorf, nor other sources were available to do business, the hungarian rail vehicle conglomerate, Ganz-Mavag stepped in.
They’ve produced a single prototype, which they put to to testing in 1988. While it had a striking livery, looking very contemporary especially compared to the Soviet trainsets, and impressions of both drivers and passengers in general were very good, the project was beset with problems.
Hungary went through a regime change not much later, Ganz-Mavag has been bough out by the English company Hunslet, and partially due to teething issues, and partially due to lack of will, the single prototype was the only example ever built.
It was in revenue service until 1995, and issues with it has never been iron out. After that, the only example has been withdrawn, while the Soviet trainsets getting a mid-life restoration instead.
While to real example is only started running in 1988, this mod is available from 1980-1981 to help playability. It won’t look out of place in 1980.
I’ve hand-built the model, and while it’s not as detailed as some of the other examples, it looks great even from up close.
Let’s get those 80’s vibes going!
Edit: overly large side-windows corrected (I didn’t re-shoot the screenshots, but visible in the game)
