Yarrow Tintt
The High Petal Mage and her shapeshifting ribbon, Holland, have fled to the world of Aether. With her out of control magic and more out of control anger, she’ll protect the greenery of the world at all costs, even from its own residents.
Yarrow is a risk-oriented glass cannon able to harass the opponent with her great air speed and overall floatiness. Hoping to sneak in her slow but deadly Dash Attack, Bair, or Charged USpecial in for the kill. Yarrow herself has quite a learning curve in both movement and her moveset’s mechanics, and experimentation is heavily encouraged. All of it balanced around one little underlying feeling of hatred deep in her gut.
During the startup of her specials, clicking the parry button makes Yarrow execute an entirely new attack called a Hate Move. Yarrow has five of them in total, each of wish branching off from their respective directional special. Neutral Hate, Forward Hate, Up Hate, Down Hate, and Aerial Down Hate. Each of these moves offers a completely new tool. However, doing so causes Yarrow a bit too much stress for her own good, and generates Hatred. Yarrow can also generate Hatred by jump cancelling her Down Special before it hits, or her Dash Attack after it hits.
Hatred will be shown above Yarrow’s HUD during gameplay, and will naturally lower back down to zero over time. Yet, if Yarrow ever were to get hit while having Hatred, The entire value will be converted into immediate damage. This makes her particularly weak to multi-hits and combos.
You want to get rid of this pent up frustration before it kills you? Well, the only way to do that is by venting your frustration by beating up your opponents. Hits made by non-hate attacks will reduce Yarrow’s current Hatred ever so slightly. She can also take a larger chunk off by consuming her pollen clouds to enhance her attacks, and remove even more with successful parries.
Overall, be wary about Hatred, and don’t get cocky. If Yarrow gets above 40 Hatred, she gets so tensed up that her air speed and acceleration are heavily reduced.
Neutral Special has Yarrow charge up a bolt of magic in her finger before firing it at a downward angle. This move can be charged for slightly more damage and released at any time, releasing the charge while in midair makes Yarrow shoot the projectile at a very steep angle. This projectile pierces opponents until it comes into contact with the ground or walls, in which is will create a burst of magic that sends the opponent upwards if it hits the ground or way if it hits the wall. Yarrow has decreased gravity while charging the projectile, so jumping right as you execute the attack gives Yarrow significant height.
Neutral Hate has Yarrow stop in place and start charging up a large beam. While charging, Yarrow has a brief period where she can move in any direction to reposition her beam. Yarrow goes into pratfall after executing this move.
Yarrow will reach into her front pocket and toss an orb of pollen at the opponent. The orb bursts after a short while or upon contact with the opponent, creating a cloud that very slowly floats across the stage. Yarrow can also pop the orb over herself by holding the special button during startup. Using FSpecial again while the cloud exists will have Holland flap his wings, this flap is a weak hitbox in itself but causes the pollen cloud to have a short burst of speed in the direction inputted, this speed can also be angled up and down. Using this flap while inside the cloud itself will create a crescent shaped projectile. Yarrow can manually delete this cloud herself by holding special again during the flap’s startup, or it will despawn naturally over time.
The pollen cloud itself has both offensive and defensive capabilities to it. While Yarrow is inside the cloud, she is considerably heavier, and it unable to take recoil damage from Hatred. If she gets knocked out of her cloud mid-combo though, the moving cloud is unable to save her. This cloud will also enhance a few of her moves if they contact the cloud whilst being used. Up Special will gain slight soft armor, Down Strong will be able to dash in a direction held upon release (and even jump during it if holding up), and FHate gains a much larger and stronger shockwave. So be very sure what you wish to do with your cloud.
Speaking of Forward Hate, Yarrow will hold her arms back and lean forward, gaining super armor while charging a powerful clap. This clap has a brutal sweet spot where her hands meet together, which gets even stronger upon absorbing a pollen cloud. Yarrow loses her super armor upon clapping, and will go into pratfall afterwards if used in midair.
Yarrow has Holland prepare an attack before she dashes in any direction you please (full 360 degrees at your disposal). After the dash, Holland will spin around Yarrow in a full circle, hitting multiple times before launching the opponent in the direction Yarrow was facing during startup. Yarrow can make Holland execute the attack early mid-dash by pressing attack or special. Absorbing a pollen cloud gives Yarrow soft armor while executing the move and enhances its knockback.
Up Hate has Yarrow attempt to grab anything above her, if she fails she immediately goes into pratfall. If successful, however, Yarrow will rise high into the air with the grabbed opponent before rocketing them into the ground with brutal power. If Yarrow’s opponent is above 100% during the grab, it will have enhanced visual effects. This is Yarrow’s strongest attack, but generates the largest amount of Hatred.
Down Special has Yarrow hop into the air before shortly divekicking forward, this divekick can be angled downwards by holding the special button during startup. If Yarrow hits the opponent, she will stand on them for only a moment before pulling out a Pollen Orb and smashing it into the opponent. If a Pollen Cloud doesn’t currently exist when landing this move, it will create one. Yarrow can cancel any into any of her aerials afterwards. If she misses, Yarrow will eventually go into a long fumble, or she can do so early by pressing the attack or special button again. If you don’t WANT to have to deal with the risk of the fumble or landing animation. Yarrow can jump cancel her divekick as long as she still has access to her double jump. This generates a slight amount of Hatred, however. Yarrow can only divekick once before she has to land or get hit to recover it.
When used from the ground, Yarrow’s Down Hate has her begin to overload herself with magical energy, making her immune to projectiles, before she releases it all in a damaging red aura around her. If a cloud exists during Down Hate’s execution, it will also produce a similar yellow aura in its center. Overlapping both auras will total to a whopping 30% damage. The aura of the cloud always hits last, and is much weaker than Yarrow’s.
When used from the air, Yarrow will quickly rocket straight downwards at a very high speed. Only knocking back whatever she lands on. If a pollen cloud exists when this is executed, it will transform into a large falling pollen ball that briefly stuns the opponent on landing, allowing Yarrow to take advantage of potential follow-ups.
