Introduction

This mod was created to enrich the nobility experience in Dwarf Fortress. With a broad range of features related to noble positions, this mod aims to introduce a deeper, more immersive political system. What’s more, by assigning some generic roles, you may use it to assign items to specific dwarfs. Feel encouraged to also rename titles to fit your world.

Design Decisions
  • Due to modding limitations, some roles and responsibilities are simplified, approximated, or just description-based without a real impact on game mechanics.
  • Keeping some roles with no responsibilities and no demands allows their use as a way to assign items to specific dwarfs.
  • Some roles are intentionally left vague to allow for customization and interpretation by the player.
  • To work around game limitations, similar positions with fixed numbers were added, raising to the main one later.
  • To avoid situations where a knight (low tier) stops being a knight (low tier) and becomes a knight (higher tier), naming conventions like (gems, metals, ore, stones, wood, drinks) are used to match both the position and dwarven culture.

Other

Planned Features

Nothing at the moment. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Issues
  • No known issues except for the game modding engine limitations.
  • Please be aware that this mod will increase the number of events created in world history by assigning and changing nobility positions.
  • Issue with military positions (fix attempted in 1.05).

If you encounter any other issues, please let me know.

Using in Other Mods

Please feel encouraged to use this resource as a dependency in your mod. If you need just a subset of features and others are misaligned with your vision, please contact me – it is likely there will be no problem on my side to create a resource-only mod (or mods) with the content you require.

Updates
  • 1.04 – Initial release
  • 1.12 – MAX_SITE_POP_NUMBER 250
  • 1.13 – Updated SUCCESSION to avoid higher positions being ‘promoted’ to lower ones (to prevent inheritance loops) (thx Business Cat)
  • 1.14…1.16 – Attempt to fix the issue with squads creation being blocked. Removed EQUIPMENT_MANIFESTS from all positions, LAW_ENFORCEMENT from knights.

If you used this mod and had some interesting story to share, please write a comment.
