RimPlas
RimPlas is a synthetic "metallic" material; lighter but not as strong as steel (Plastic). It can be used in structures or other metallic items with a "stuffed" quality. There is also a byproduct of RimPoly (Polyester wool) from injection moulding.
It uses Chemfuel and Cloth combined in a biofuel reactor or injection moulding machine.
The Injection moulding process is designed to produce furniture items efficiently, as alternative production.
It also includes a new synthetic production process using a manufactured synthetic precursor chemical "Synthbase". This is used in the production of Synthread, DevilSynth (synthetic Devilstrand cloth), Plasteel and Plasteel Wool.
The Advanced injection moulding machine (which needs an AI persona core to build) can be used to make hyperweave (also Graphene). This requires mechanites extracted from mechanoids during a disassembly process from the provided Mechbreaker bench.
Also has an earlier semi-synthetic production of "RimRayon" made from wood (cellulose) and chemfuel (organic base). The properties of RimRayon sit between cloth and synthread. The research for RimRayon is not dependant on the production of RimPlas.
RimThermoPlas foam is a synthesised expanded polymer with a low density and large surface contact area to material ratio. It is slightly flammable and will enable chemfuel alongside a silver catalyst to destabalise in a mild producing exothermic manner. Chemfuel is mostly used up as the reagent. Once researched, the foam material can be synthesised with Synthbase and RimPoly in the injection moulding machine.
You can build complex bedrolls using leathery materials to act as a holding vessel for this reaction and allow for the bedroll to then act as a weak heating device. They will need to be topped up with a Chemfuel. These bedrolls are envisaged for use in wintry or cold conditions, though don’t expect them to keep you warm in the open outdoors (ideally you will still need to find shelter). They are intended as caravan utility items so that you can readily gain some warmth inside a shelter without the complexity of sourcing electricity or other means of heating.
(Bedrolls act as heat pushers at a rate of 8-9 continuously (max temp 24C) with chemfuel supplied).
Carbon synthetics offers a completely new area of synthetic materials. Using Wood combined with Synthbase to create the base precursor chemical Pitch, which is then used further in carbon synthesis. There are various materials added that can be made using other products:
Asphalt: Building material similar to concrete, though slightly more "plasticky", it’s main advantage is the ease of use it is to work with the material. There is a specific flooring added for asphalt.
Carbon Fibre: Really a carbon fibre polymer composite (metallic) made from Pitch, RimPlas and a potential "mix" of synthetic textiles. It’s main advantage is a resilience to heat.
Carbosynth: A Carbon fibre woven cloth made from Synthread and Pitch. Similar to Synthread, but with better heat resiliance.
CarboPlasteel: A laminate composite made from Carbon fibre polymer and Plasteel. Extremely strong.
Graphene: In its simplest form is an allotrope of carbon consisting of a single layer of carbon atoms arranged in a hexagonal lattice. This can be used to build up other more extremely robust allotropes which also have good electrical and thermal properties. It is made ("arranged") using Hyperweave in an injection moulding process combining with Pitch. There are some electrical power and heating/cooling items added for Graphene that have improved properties and robustness over their vanilla equivalents and also a hydroponics bin. The vent uses Graphene’s material properties to filter air based on a specific temperature range (mod options and toggle) and opens and closes itself based on this.
Similar to an Autodoor, this Graphene based door has additional biometric sensors that can allow it to detect if a colonist/prisoner is in an abnormal mental state and "intervene" by stunning them for a length of time, removing the mental break in the process.
The mod allows you to produce a multianalyzer without the need to have Plasteel. This is replaced with an alternative production process where the Plasteel is replaced with the use of injection moulded reinforced RimPlas housing parts. (There is a diagram provided above that summarises the process). This means you will need to research as far as Synthetics to be able to achieve this and make use of an injection moulding machine, but it removes the reliance on Plasteel. The production process is also slightly less economical and more involved than the vanilla Multianalyser building process.
With research RimPlas synthetics now include an injection moulding process for components. And although moulded one at a time the relative production times are much better than the facbrication method.
The two production buildings used for production are the additional injection moulding machines as well as the vanilla biofuel refinery.
Multiple research projects in own research tab and has a mod option to adjust the base project cost, some bulk recipes with slightly reduced overall work and resource use.
Works with existing saves and compatibility should be good with other mods.
To remove the mod you would have to remove all presence of the materials and items applied and anything made from them. Also would need to remove any buildings.
This mod has been developed with a balanced production process in mind for the synthesis of some of the vanilla resources, using multiple pre-production needs and additional resources.
This mod now provides supply methods for some of my other mods, though others do exist by other authors as prefered. You may however wish to consider the base resource needs of this and my other mods that require cloth and Chemfuel production as root supply needs.
VGP Garden: allows the use of ironwood and bamboo in addition to wood for the production of Pitch for carbon synthesis.
Industrialisation: Uses concrete material for production of Asphalt, shifts recipe to concrete mixer. Carbon composites can additionally be made in the Electric Arc smelter.
RF Concrete 1.0: Uses concrete material for the production of Asphalt.
N7 Defences Expanded: Can use RimPlas in a recipe for making H-Barrier cells.
Multiplayer – Native support (beta)
Insulation – includes RimThermoPlas insulation structures.
VFE – Production – additional cabinet use.
I wish to recommend "Rimefeller" by Dub as an option to provide a reliable Chemfuel source, which is something I use myself. And am aware that some of the outputs from this mod overlap here. This can be considered as an alternative process where used together.
