[Spearhead] ’26 Infantry
Spearhead is a spinoff project of Frontlines that will be used to differentiate completely fictional weaponry. Some may have some historical components, but for the most part these guns are going to be fabricated by myself or others, or redesigns from other fictional universe for Frontlines purposes.

This mod contains the ’26 Infantry, a standard-issue Federal assault rifle. Chambered in a 5.6mm low-weight, medium velocity cartridge, it was designed as a direct response to the Imperial LMG 08/19. It uses 30 round magazines and an action derived from an earlier self-loading rifle, but with a novel gas system that gives it extremely light recoil. The rounds don’t have a ton of energy, though, with soldiers reporting even shots to the head sometimes not killing foes, and regularly dumping 6 or more rounds into the torsos of combatants to put them down. Despite this, it’s got great range, light recoil, and pierces soft body armor quite well. While not replacing higher power rifles entirely, it has a niche in close to medium range, where it can output much more rounds at longer distances than submachine guns, more accurately, and still have a tolerable recoil.
Real-Life Inspiration:
This one is basically me thinking, "What’s the closest we can get to an M16 in WW1/interwar?". Remington Model 8, using a modified gas system inspired by David Marshall Williams’ Model 8 derivative prototype, which later went on to be featured in the Winchester G30, and later the M1 Carbine. The round it uses is 5.6x30mm Vierling, which seemed to me to be the closest I could get to 5.56x45mm, besides the 5mm Mondragon cartridge which was much larger. From there, gave it a Thomspon stock and foregrip, 30 round magazine that’s a smaller but higher capacity version of the Model 8’s 20 round .25 Remington magazine, and some sights I freehanded that I hope give off an M16 aesthetic.
