More Cosmetic Ranks – Including Amalgamation Support
There is already a mod, Iridar’s Cosmetic Rank Replacer, so it may seem like this mod is redundant. It does two things: adds new rank icon and name sets, and works with Amalgamation specializations. It can be used stand-alone, or in conjunction with Iridar’s mod; either by incorporating this mod’s sets into Iridar’s, or by allowing Iridar’s sets to be used with Amalgamation. (Amalgamation itself is not a requirement.) Checked against classes from base game, LWOTC, RPGO, Proficiency, and Amalgamation, and should work with most future potential class overhaul mods. Safe to add or remove at any time.
Several new icon and name sets have been included. I’m personally more of a fan of the fantasy aesthetic, so you’ll see that influence in most of the icons here.
- EB Cool to Warm (default) Base game icons in color. Squaddie is a cool blue, ranks get warmer, up to red at max rank.
- EB Mercenary Starting with the squaddie face, it adds more and more covering helmets as ranks increase.
- EB Mage Gets glowy psi-purple eyes and purple mystic/wizard hats as ranks increase.
- EB Barbarian Has skirmisher-red face paint, covering more as ranks increase.
- EB Rogue Wears reaper-brown swashbuckling/roguish hats and bandana, with the hats getting fancier at higher ranks.
- EB Golem (default for Sparks) Ranks are "souls" with metals, or other materials, at the core. There is also a generic "Metal Soul" for Sparks with only one rank, like in Modular Sparks. By default, Sparks will be automatically switched to the one rank version if Modular Sparks is enabled.
- In Iridar’s Cosmetic Rank Replacer Settings are included here to add the new Icon/Name sets to Iridar’s Rank Replacer. They can be used in either that mod’s configs or MCM settings (although that mod’s MCM settings may crash XCom if Amalgamation is running).
- This Mod With Iridar’s Rank Replacer Active Sets from that mod can be used in this mod, optional settings for them are included. Be aware that if you try to use them without Iridar’s Rank Replacer active, you’ll get the rainbow "img:" error icons.
- Potential Settings Conflicts Since both mods affect rank names and icons, they can overwrite each other, so it is usually best to use the overrides from only one of them at a time per class. Nothing will break if you include both, but you can end up with a mix of a few from each mod. Generally speaking Iridar’s mod’s basic settings are low priority, this mod is medium priority, and the Individual class configs in Iridar’s mod are high priority.
- Config-centric Everything in this mod is controlled through its config files. Most common settings are found in XComRankSetsBySpec.ini, the instructions there should be relatively complete and concise.
- Amalgamation Which icon/name set to use is determined by specializations with primary specs overriding secondary, and both overriding tertiary
- Medic Flag Base game and EB icons have a version with a little green cross to flag them as medics. Classes can be flagged as medical (currently only base game and LWOTC Specialists) and will use the green cross version. Amalgamation specs can also be flagged medical and will update the icon regardless of which spec level (primary/secondary/tertiary) is medical. The medic setting is ignored with icon sets that don’t support them.
