AOW4 Multiclassing
Behold, you are now able to multiclass! Being locked to a weapon type has also gone deletus!
Defender builds can technically use things like Lances or Greataxes, but doing so can break balance with their retaliation tree. Since preventing this cleanly wasn’t possible without rewriting the trees, this one relies on player restraint.
If you load an existing save, any missing skill trees will be added on the next turn. If you ever meet a hero who doesn’t have all their trees, they’ll receive them the following turn.
How Multiclassing Works
You’ll see special multiclass nodes in the skill trees.
– Each node costs a skill point to select.
– That point is refunded when you learn another skill, a hero levels up, or your turn ends
– You can multiclass only into one class
– Jack’s Hero Classes are exempt from penalties.
Once you confirm a multiclass choice, it’s permanent. Skill resets cannot undo it due to how the refund system works.
Multiclass Penalties
Multiclassing is meant to add versatility, not raw power. Each multiclass choice applies two types of penalties:
– A stat penalty (usually a damage or range reduction).
– Skill locks that prevent access to certain powerful abilities.
– Example: Multiclassing into Warrior blocks Killing Momentum.
Multiclassing into Modded Classes
There will be a skill tree called "Multiclass (Modded)" which has all compatible class mods in it. They are automatically locked unless you unlock them via a compatibility spell that’ll be in your spellbook. This is to avoid the AI multiclassing into modded classes you don’t have.
Q&A
Q: Can you remove the penalties or make a separate version?
A: No. I don’t make or maintain mods I wouldn’t play myself and non-penalized multiclassing was definitely a problem.
Q: Why is Jacks’ Hero Classes mod excluded from the penalty mechanic?
A: His classes are too strong where I couldn’t think of a penalty that wouldn’t disproportionately negatively effect the vanilla and vanilla-like classes. Additionally, people who pick that mod typically pick it because it’s stonger than vanilla.
Q: Can I see the class skill trees prior to confirming to multiclass into them
A: Not without breaking compatibility with numerous workshop mods. The best way to see is to confirm, end turn, then load back OR, when it comes to vanilla classes, go here: https://minionsart.github.io/aow4db/

Compatibility
It is compatible with most modded classes. Latest one I did was Visie’s Assassin Class
Did you know steam has a follower mechanic where you can follow modders? I didn’t either. You can go here and follow me if you want to be up-to-date on any future tome mods I make (or any mod I make in general): Wanna follow?
