On the "Ile de la Citie", an island in the Seine River, stands the cathedral known as Notre-Dame de Paris. The construction of Notre-Dame de Paris began in 1163 and took almost two centuries to complete. The square towers, flying buttresses and tall spires of the cathedral were decorated with statues of saints and kings, and its interior was filled with galleries of religious arts. Notre-Dame de Paris was seen as a symbol of France, well-known for Victor Hugo’s novel "The Hunchback of Notre-Dame" (in fact the French name of the novel was exactly "Notre-Dame de Paris"). Notre-Dame de Paris suffered many damages over its long history, including the fire in 2019 that destroyed a large part of the roof and the fl癡che. The cathedral underwent years of reconstruction, and reopened on 7 December 2024.
