Updated to the submod’s 2.4.2 (Jan 9, 2025) update. Enjoy the new Siberia and Oceania terrain!

This is an unofficial port of the Ante Bellum submod called Map Borders Overhaul to vanilla as it’s own standalone mod. I have gotten permission from the original mod dev (robert) to upload this port.

NOTE: This mod changes quite a bit about the map, so I’m not sure how compatible this mod will be with others. Though I’ll eventually make a Lite version of this mod that is made for compatibility with other mods.

Original Description

Have you ever grown tired with how sloppy and inaccurate the map looks like in vanilla EU4? This submod aims to change it and replace all the inaccurate terrain with something more sophisticated while being as compatibility-friendly as possible. With this addon come reworked coastlines, terrain textures and provinces’ borders for most played regions of the world. While new coastline adds a lot of missing irl features, reworked provinces offer much more detailed borders (especially showing actual bordergore that was the HRE) of both historical and alternative scope. At last, expanded wastelands create more strategic passes and holdings.

Why are you releasing this?

The original mod devs havent ported it to vanilla yet, and I wanted a port, and you wanted a port, so…

When an official port releases, I’ll take down this one.

Full credits go to the original mod developers for the actual map changes, I simply just took a few days to port this over to vanilla.

Compatibility

This might not be very compatible with other mods. But like I said earlier, I’ll definitely be making a "Lite" version of this mod down the line made for mod compatibility.

This mod is outright NOT compatible with…
– Mods that change the map (ex. mods that add new nations, provinces, etc) (
– Mods that edit the province interface
– uhhh i think thats it 🙂

Known Issues

– This mod may be a tad wonky with TI showing provinces that are a little out of place, but overall shouldn’t affect normal gameplay that much.
– To make some states not be 10+ provinces, I did move two states around in central/southern Africa, but chances are you probably arent directly playing there, though colonizer mission trees might be slightly affected. Sorry, I haven’t playtested that region, so maybe a mission tree or two is out of wack, but fixing it wasn’t my primary concern when developing this port. I’d rather have the mod work correctly overall then spend time reworking mission trees for nations people won’t or barely will play.
– Dev count might be higher in some areas due to the added AB provinces, though I tried my best to fix the more important regions. China is the biggest example of this and has higher total dev (100~ more than base game) but whats the difference when their armies still suck and they’ll probably explode anyway on the opposite side of the world than where most people are playing 🙂
