Cross Weapon Training
Who needs to stick to your default weapons all the time? Let your soldiers experiment.
This mod adds two new slots to the Training Center.
These slots will enable a soldier of a proper class (ie Templars can stay home) to learn one of four disciplines:
Close Quarters: Shotgun and Bullpups
Assault: Assault Rifle and Bullpups
Marksmanship: Sniper Rifles and Vektor Rifles
Heavy: Cannons
When learned, that soldier can now equip any weapon in those categories. They will also gain +5 crit to the weapons they are class trained in. However, any non-native weapon a soldier is using (ie a shotgun on a Reaper, for instance) will be unable to crit.
To fix that, a soldier needs to train in Weapon Mastery. After doing so, they will be able to crit with non-native weapons, and gain +5 aim to the weapons they’re class trained in.
There is a bit of a catch though…
By default, learning a weapon discipline takes 5 days.
Two days is added for every discipline a soldier already knows, so the final discipline on a soldier would take 11 days.
Weapon Mastery, on the other hand, takes 10 days to learn, and also gains 2 days for every discipline learned, so learning it at the very end will take 18 days.
If Weapon Mastery is learned early on beforehand however, it will multiply the training times of all remaining disciplines. So 5 days turns into 10 days, 7 days turns into 14, etc etc.
The trade-off of being unable to use crit builds for alternate weapons for a while vs being unable to quickly learn multiple disciplines will have to be made.
If you happen to have a mod that adds positive traits like my own More Traits mod, then there will be an additional option in the training center: Random Positive Trait.
This will grant you a random positive trait after 15 days of training time. It will always take 15 days, with no way to increase or decrease it.
Does this work with modded classes or weapons?
Modded classes, yes. It may result in issues for primary melee classes.
Modded weapons will work if they use a vanilla weapon category. If they use a custom one, it will need to be added to the .ini

XComCrossTraining.ini will have the variables you’re looking for.
Does this work with Linux/MacOSX systems?
No. The highlander has been unable to update for those systems due to the latest patches not being released yet.
Please bug 2K or Feral Interactive to fix that already instead of coming to me.
