Description:

(First two video samples recorded using Font’s Realism)

Large overhaul for many of the sounds in Gates of Hell. When I first got the game, I was pretty underwhelmed by the quiet gunfire and repetitive voicelines.

I was still a fan of the sound design in the Robz Realism mod from MOWAS2. As a result, I simply brought the sounds from Robz over to GoH. Credits are below.

I mostly did this for myself to improve my own experience, but because I couldn’t actually play with these sounds in multiplayer with my friends, I turned it into a workshop mod and made it public in case others are interested. Hopefully some people out there enjoy it as much as I do.

Expect the following changes:
– Replaced most gunfire sfx, from SMGs to Rifles to MGs to 75mms to 152mms and beyond.
– Added more voicelines for the Americans, Germans, and Russians. Those voicelines from Robz are sourced from Company of Heroes
– Added more hit noises for tanks. Expect heavier whistling upon ricochets and non-penetrations.
– Replaced most tank engine noises. Robz Realism does not overhaul all engine noises, and GoH has many unique vehicles, so don’t expect everything to be changed. These effects are sourced from Gnomefather’s mod for World of Tanks
– Revamped explosion noises
– Borrowed infantry voicelines from the discontinued WHUB mod.

What this mod doesn’t have:
– I didn’t change any sounds that either I thought BWS did well on, or simply don’t make that big of a difference. Rocket artillery, handguns, mortars, artillery shell whistling, anti-tank rifles, environmental noises, and airplanes are some of the many things I left unchanged.
– No new Finnish voicelines because Robz doesn’t have them. MOWAS2’s Valour does but I don’t think they’re as good.
– The 20mm Flakvierling, Twinmount .50 Cal, and Quadmount .50 Cal all have unique files that play a loop of gunfire instead of just a single gunshot. Because I only had files for the latter, I left them unchanged.

Further notes:
– I’m pretty sure this mod is compatible with basically any other mod that doesn’t already have new sfx or units. In other words, I don’t think this mod will do you any good if you pair it with West-81 or Hotmod 1968. However, I tested it with Font’s Realism, MACE, and Valour and it seems to work fine (as long as you play one of the base game’s factions). This mod works best with other mods that keep the original WW2 settings and factions.
– Please change your volume levels accordingly if the mod is too loud.

Credits:
– Robz and crew for Robz Realism (for vast majority of sounds)
– Gnomefather, Classic, and Zorgane for their WoTPC sound mod (more engine sounds taken from them)
– Pannoniae for Robz Reloaded (some sounds from that mod were used as well) and helping out with the volume
– Anatoly Dyatlov and crew for WHUB (for infantry voicelines)

Let me know if there are any serious bugs I need to address (i.e. sounds not playing properly), or if there’s anything you’d like to see added.

Please be aware that I have zero coding or software experience and that I made this mod casually for myself and my friends to enjoy. I’m not a serious modder and I don’t plan on becoming one.

This mod was used for the development of Project Realism C. If you’re looking for a true Robz Realism gameplay-esque mod, go check it out. I’ll still be updating this mod since it can be played with other big ones like MACE or Horten’s Frontline.
