Blood of Valyria – A AGOT Submod
In George R. R. Martin’s world, the Valyrians are an ancient people originating from the Valyrian peninsula. For centuries — even millennia — they practiced marriage within the same family in order to preserve the purity of their blood.
Before the Doom of Valyria, several Valyrian families had already settled in Westeros: the Targaryens, the Velaryons, and the Celtigars. After the catastrophe, these houses became the last surviving representatives of this people on the continent. The Targaryens, in particular, established their domination through fire and blood, forging the Iron Throne 🔥
Over time, these families began to marry with Westerosi houses while maintaining the Valyrian tradition of incest. For many in the known world, “the name makes the blood” — a quote that illustrates this perception well. Yet from a genetic standpoint, this is not the case: a child born of only one Valyrian parent is far from being pure-blooded.
Here are a few examples showing the consequences of dilution:
– Helaena and her brother had around 37% Valyrian blood, and their children were born with deformities.
– Aegon IV (31% Valyrian blood) and his sister-wife had only two surviving children.
– Jaehaerys II (3%) married his sister; they had only two children in total (very low fertility compared to other royal couples).
– The first, Aerys II, is infamous for his madness🔥. He married his sister: their union was marked by several miscarriages, children dying young, and an unstable heir. As for Daenerys, although sane for most of her life, she eventually succumbed to madness at the end of the series…
Removes the –95% inbreeding penalty reduction for Valyrian houses (while keeping the diplomatic bonus).
Adds a system of genetic traits representing the percentage of Valyrian blood (from 1/32 to 32/32).
The percentage is displayed in parentheses next to the trait name (e.g., 16/32), allowing you to distinguish traits even when multiple share the same description.
Each trait grants:
– A reduction to inbreeding penalties (from –3% to –100%)
– A health bonus against diseases (from 0.03 to 1)
– An attraction opinion bonus (from 18 to 50)
You also have the option, via a game rule, to trigger an event at the start of a new campaign in order to remove dragons.
This submod also introduces a new event called “A Prince of Westeros.” If a house that canonically ruled one of the Seven Kingdoms manages to seize the Iron Throne, its heir will receive, at age 16, a special event allowing them to claim and reclaim their ancestral seat. This mechanic is directly inspired by the Targaryens and Dragonstone, and provides a more coherent political role for the great historical houses when they rise to power. A simple and elegant way to enhance immersion, RP flavor… and dynastic tension.

This mod introduces a more realistic approach to Valyrian genetics. Simply bearing a prestigious name is no longer enough to ignore the effects of inbreeding!
You will no longer be able to marry your dynasty into Westerosi houses for three generations and suddenly resume incest as if nothing happened without suffering consequences… This adds challenge and genuine RP interest 😏
Fun example: if you start as Viserys III, you get an inbreeding penalty for marrying Daenerys…
You can also remove dragons from bookmarks that normally include them (only if you want to).
The mod is available in French and English (but since English is not my native language, please be indulgent 🙏)

– Compatible with AGOT+, LoV and Ancient Birthright.
– Can be activated mid-save, but not recommended for optimal use.

🐛 Known BugA bug causes certain historical characters (such as Lucerys Velaryon or Viserys Targaryen, brother of Jaehaerys I) who died as children to not display the trait added by this mod in the bookmarks where they appear dead.
