Mercenaries Overhaul [Grand Campaign]
IMPORTANT: It’s a startpos mod so it conflicts with other startpos mods.
Not save game compatible: you need to start a new campaign in order to use the mod.
- More factional mercenaries: almost every faction has more mercenaries to factional pool
- More provincial mercenaries: there are more mercenaries in almost every province
- Increased chance of replenishment for mercenaries: mercenaries have better chance of replenishment everywhere
- Mercenary Camp gives experience to recruited mercenaries in the province
- Military traditions for upkeep and morale are easier to obtain
- Unique building for Greeks, Successor kingdoms, Black Sea colonies, Pontus, Carthage
Some units require DLCs.

I added mercenaries in almost every province, but the added ones are in low numbers.
There are some Elite Mercenaries:
- Noble Horse: Aquitania
- Noble Fighters: Tarraconensis
- Numidian Noble Cavalry: Mauretania
Chances of replenishment are increased from 0.15 to 0.45.
Some mercenaries have 0.75, so I didn’t changed them.
I didn’t change Naval Mercenaries: they have still 0.15 chance of replenishment.
Mercenaries become outdated when you start to unlock elite units and training buildings, so I decided to edit the Mercenary Camp building chain for Successor Kingdoms, Greeks, Black Sea Colonies, Pontus and Carthage.
Now they give experience bonus to recruited mercenaries in the province:
If you build, in a province, 3 Lev.4 Mercenary Camp you’ll recruit Mercenaries with 9 experience.
In this way they are still expensive, but highly experienced and not outdated in the late campaign.
These traditions are available to some factions only, not to everyone.
In vanilla these traditions aren’t really that helpful, because it’s very hard to unlock them.
With this mod it’s possible to unlock them much easier than before.
This tradition is specific for mercenaries. It decreases upkeep, recruitment costs and increases morale.
Changes
- Now it’s much easier to unlock it
- More useful first level: it was -5% recruitment cost, now it’s also -5% upkeep and +5% morale
This tradition applies to all units in the army. It decreases upkeep, increases morale and replenishment (for the last two levels).
Changes
- Now it’s much easier to unlock it
Unique building that provides more replenishment in the province and reduces upkeep for mercenaries.
It can be built everywhere, but it’s limited to only one.

- Baktria
- Carthage
- Cimmeria
- Colchis
- Egypt
- Epirus

I made a lot of changes in this mod, so I couldn’t test everything. If you encounter some bugs tell me in the comment section.
