ORBIS INSULARUM: Southeast Asia Expansion — CULTURES and MONUMENTS – UPDATE: 1.8.19b

Orbis Insularum is a historically grounded rework of Southeast Asia in Europa Universalis IV. This mod rebuilds the region from the ground up—revamping tags, rebalancing gameplay systems, and introducing rich new mechanics, all with a deep respect for cultural and historical authenticity.

- Every tag has handwritten National Ideas (Maritime SEA and Cham area; old and new tags)
- Custom or reconstructed flags for (almost) every tag (old and new).
- New cultures introduced
- Localized rulers and name pools for every nation (Partial in v1.3 — 1444 ruler names are currently under review)
- Trade Nodes: repositioned and restructured
- New Terrain Overhaul: redistributed terrain using new data
- New Govt reforms: 10+ t1 govt reforms alone.
- Province change: No new provinces, just elongated in Sumatra
- Trade Goods: redistributed using academic and historical data
- Development: reassigned using Copernican models and vanilla estimates (overhauled again in 1.6)
- New Mercenary Companies and Naval Doctrines
- New Theme Song: it’s a banger.
- New Starting Bookmark and tag recommendations
- New Monuments: More planned Mainly
- New Historical Formable: No alt ones yet.
- New Religions: We tried to avoid Bloat. Clustered animism into Spiritism for SEA. Clustered Native believes Java/Sumatra. Added 2 seperate Pantheons in the Phil for flavor. Animism is now Syncretic.
- Custom Religious Interaction:
– If you’re a SEA culture with a Sunni ally (150+ opinion), you can make a decision to convert your ruler to Sunni (proof of concept) - Experimental Ming merchant interactions for Samtoy (more planned)
- Based on circa 3–35+ sources per Tag
- Includes academic articles (DOIs), manuscripts, folklore, in-person conversations, forum discussions, and more. However we decided to stick to vanilla modus operandi, out of compromise.
- Thousands of references parsed in v1.3 alone — powered by coffee and music
- I do make new art for flags, because most flags were plain and oddly shaped from the time period to avoid bloat. Contact me if you want to use those or need lore on it (discord).
- And the second note. Some stuff is semi-mythical/historical. If you copy this map 1:1 and claim it as history you’re just wrong. We tried to compromise to reflect certain ethnic groups as tags.
- Third note, lots of tags are missing because of small provinces in EU4. So sorry petty kingdoms, pre- and full polity enjoyers.

- I try to update the mod regularly if time allows it. Minor updates are in progress featuring a map overhaul, new nations, custom relationships, system improvements, flavor events, localization for other languages, and mission trees. But I’m also looking at my unreleased mods and work for Siberia, Europe, Africa and Americas. I might look into a total conversion, but it’s an idea.
