Vampires
Hey everyone, big update is finally here. I’ve been working on this for a while and the mod has grown a lot since the last version. Vampires actually feel like vampires now instead of just an immortal trait. Let me walk you through what’s new.
Bloodthirst
Your vampire has to feed now. Every two years your hunger ticks down a stage: Sated (4), Slaked (3), Famished (2), Bloodstarved (1). The modifier carries a visible 2-year countdown so you can see when the next drop is coming. The hungrier you get, the more your stats suffer. If you let yourself hit Bloodstarved, you get a breakdown event with four pretty desperate choices, none of them great. Don’t let it get there.
(Vampire Spawns don’t have to deal with this, only true Vampires and Ancient Vampires.)
The Beast Within
The Bloodstarved breakdown event gives you four ways out:
– Feast on the court – drains three of your courtiers in one night, drops them in the death log as Drained by a Vampire, sends you back to Sated.
– Endure – 100 stress, drop back to Famished. The will is strong, the body suffers.
– Drink from any vessel – leper-cups, plague-pits, dying throats. Wide disease pool (consumption, dysentery, leprosy, bubonic, smallpox, pox in both forms, typhus, gout, etc.) and you have no idea which one you’ll catch.
– Gnaw on your self-control – hold the Beast back another year, but you crack. Gain a random coping mechanism (drunkard, paranoid, flagellant, reclusive, comfort eater, profligate, rakish, irritable). The event will fire again in a year.
Hunt for Blood
Brand new interaction. You can hunt one of your courtiers and drain them. It’s an Intrigue check vs theirs so don’t try it on a 25 intrigue spymaster. If you win, they die, you go back to Sated, and there’s a 50% chance one of your lingering illnesses (consumption, leprosy, plague, gout, even the new 1.19 elder ailments) gets burned out of you by the fresh blood. If you lose, you get a chunk of stress and they walk away alive. Comes with its own custom death reason.
Embracing has a cost
Turning someone now drains your reserves. Every successful Embrace drops your bloodthirst one stage. If you’re already Famished when you offer, the screen warns you in red letters that you’re about to wake the Beast. No more building a vampire dynasty risk-free.
Ancient Vampires
Live to 200 and your Vampire trait turns into Ancient Vampire. More prowess, more stats, more dread, harder to scheme against. The transition triggers on your 200th birthday immediately. Ancient is earned, not picked at character creation.
Vampires don’t wither
Withering Mind, Faltering Heart, Fragile Bones, Clouded Eyes – all the new mortal-aging traits get stripped off vampires the moment they’re applied. Same goes for senile, infirm, incapable. You’re undead, you don’t get arthritis.
The Long Quiet (ennui)
Being immortal is exhausting. Once you’re Ancient, every ten years you’ll get an event where you can endure it (lots of stress), pass the torch and abdicate to your heir, or stare into the abyss for a 15% chance to come out the other side as a Lunatic. Pick your poison.
Sire and Childe
The Embrace now actually links you and your new vampire together. They become your biological child, join your dynasty, and you both get a "Sire / Childe" label in the relations tab. Proper bloodlines, basically.
The Embrace event
When you turn someone, you now get an actual flavour event for it instead of just a toast. The text changes depending on what kind of person you’re turning – an ambitious one welcomes it, a faithful one prays through it, a compassionate one weeps through it. Pretty different reads.
Wild vampires in the world
The world starts with vampires again, and a small chance every year an adult somewhere quietly turns. Background population, no spam toasts. You’ll find them when you find them.
The Ascension Glow
The Vampire Spawn -> Vampire ascension decision now grants a proper Ascension Glow modifier (5 years) with stat boosts and an actual icon and tooltip in the modifier list.
AI is way more chill
The AI used to spread vampirism a lot more than I’d like. Now it’ll only consider it for people it’s really close to (soulmate, spouse, best friend, lover) and even then it’s pretty rare. No more vampire apocalypse 50 years in.
Lore-light on purpose
The mod stays mostly mechanical instead of pinning vampires to a specific mythology, so it slots cleanly alongside other mods and you can bring your own headcanon. No clans, no covenants, no hard rules about how vampires "really work."
A bunch of stuff I noticed while going through the mod:
– AI vampires were sometimes turning people without actually giving them the trait, fixed
– Modifier definitions were silently failing to register (wrong folder + invalid field), they actually show up in the UI list now
– Embrace event no longer prints raw scope errors in the flavour text
– The Zealous "I’d never become a vampire" check was actually broken, working now
– Some duplicate files and broken localization keys cleaned up
– Misc YAML stuff that was eating text in tooltips
Working on finishing that customization menu I started a while back. If you have ideas, drop them in the comments, I read everything.
Compatible with anything that doesn’t already add vampire traits, AGOT included.
