The Last Roman Overhaul (1.1) part 1 of 3
Welcome to the updated overhaul (version 1.1) of The Last Roman DLC.
Major changes for 1.1:
-
Basques, Bretons and Burgundians
now playable, with unique rosters for the Basques and Bretons. There is still some work to do to round out these factions.
Known bug: the starting armies for the Basques don’t charge upkeep for some reason. Either disband them, or enjoy the free armies.
USE THIS AI MOD FOR IMPROVED CAMPAIGN AI BEHAVIOURThe Impossible War by Greq7
The AI recruits more armies and puts up a better fight in the campaign. Highly recommended.Minor changes for update 1.1 include: - Irregulars’ colours fixed

- fixed Herulis’ colours
- reduced saturation for ERE colours
- increased melee defence for Ostrogoths’ Milites unit
- included compatible improvements from Unofficial Community Patch
- added custom skins and unit cards for numerous Germanic units
- fixed issue with Onagers being recruitable by factions that should not have them
- Ostrogothic Javelinmen and Frankish Skirmishers reduced from 300 to 180 men
- added small sanitation bonus for churches in minor settlements
- slight increase in standard arrows, crossbows and flaming arrows’ accuracy
- small reduction in great power penalty
- over 30 new skins added

- added Custom Battle Crash Fix by Swiss Halberdier
- other changes
Mod features include:
Using the beautiful textures of Celticus and alongside a few of my own modest attempts at creating tunics and shield facings, I’ve attempted to give each faction a unique flavour and broad theme. For example I tried to give the Ostrogoths a mixed Romano-Germanic appearance, while the Visigoths, Vandals and Franks tend more towards their own Germanic roots. The Langobards remain consistent with their 5th Century appearance.
The Moors and Berbers have a more lightly armoured appearance than vanilla.
For the Romans I built on Celticus’ textures and tried to follow various imagery and ideas from my own research. Generally they are more lightly armoured than their 5th Century counterparts.
This is a work in progress
- Melee and spears increased to 300
- Cavalry to 120
- Ranged up to 160
- Melee hit chance reduced
- Melee attack intervals reduced
- Whistling arrows removed
- High arcing shot, heavy shot, flaming shot and standard shot for archers. High arcing shot has reduced armour piercing damage but greater range.
- Projectiles less accurate
- Onagers reduced to two guns and their range and accuracy reduced
- Towers are less deadly
- Fire ships removed
I made various changes to create a progression from limitanei to pseudocomitatenses, and to include historical units.
- Exploratores and Praeventores changed to Auxiliares Legio Limitanei and Auxiliares Pseudocomitatenses.
- A Pseudocomitatenses unit created to fill a gap in the roster.
- Scout Equites changed to Equites Auxilia Limitanei.
- The Levis Armaturae are now Irregulars.
- Foederati Cavalry are now Heruli.
- Foederati Horse Archers are now Hunni.
- Equites Promoti are now Koursores
- Dromedari removed, and other changes.
- Onagers and Large Onagers removed from rosters except for Ostrogoths and Franks who can only recruit 2 onagers.
- Slingers capped to prevent AI spamming.
- Mercenary pikes are now Spear Band who can do spear wall. Pikes in general are a problem and I’m continuing to work on them to make them less horrible.
- Many other changes.
