50%
Work in Progress

Soul is a complete overhaul of Titan Quest’s core systems, reworking balance, combat, loot, and quality of life while staying true to the game’s original design.

Objectives

Compatibility

  • Works with both new and existing characters.
  • All changes are grounded in the vanilla game, ensuring seamless transitions between modded and unmodded gameplay.
  • No risk of save corruption or permanent modifications—your character remains fully playable in vanilla at all times.

Loot Acquisition

This system improves farming by reducing frustrating RNG and making loot drops more targeted:

  • No more broken items – This indirectly increases the chances of finding Magical and Rare items.
  • Better affixes on gear – When a Magical or Rare item drops, the affix distribution is more evened out, so low-tier affixes like armor or energy don’t make up the majority of the share. The higher you go up in difficulty, the more profound the effect.
  • Smarter Unique drops – Unique items are rarer, but they’re more likely to belong to the Act you’re currently in.
  • Improved merchant stock – Merchants no longer sell common items and may offer Monster gear if located in areas where those creatures are found.
  • Rebalanced relic/charm bonuses – Completion bonuses weight distribution has been completely reworked for better consistency and usefulness.

Rebalance
Masteries

  • Adjusted skill values and effects for better balance.
  • Replaced weak or underused skills with viable alternatives if simple number tweaks weren’t enough.
  • Improved skill functionality and responsiveness to feel more modern.

Items & Affixes

  • Reviewed and adjusted almost every item and affix for better viability in the current game balance.
  • Created unique item and affix-based skills.
  • Rebalanced stats across the board, aiming for better power scaling while keeping more options viable as sidegrades.
  • Reworked set items for improved consistency and utility.

Combat Feel

  • Melee combat adjusted to focus more on attacking than chasing.
  • Enemy and ally AI reworked to behave more intelligently based on race and environment.
  • Each skill now has unique ragdoll effects, slightly altering enemy death animations.
  • Weapons and armor now have distinct mechanics based on their implicit properties.

Quality of Life
Loot Visuals

  • Unique items now display affixes (previously hidden).
  • Dropped items have improved ground indicators.
  • Monster Uniques now have a distinct drop sound, similar to Epic and Legendary items.

Skill Tooltips

  • Skills now include categorized tags, making it easier to understand their function and how stats affect them (refer to the tutorial for tag explanations).
  • Descriptions have been rewritten for better clarity.
  • Item-based skills with chance activation now explicitly state their activation rates.

Optimization

  • Reduced excessive particle effects that could cause lag while preserving the original visual intent.
  • Fixed numerous broken references, inconsistencies, and overlooked issues left by the original developers (even more fixes than my Bug Fixes mod).
  • Added journal logs to track hidden quest rewards, like One-Shot Dungeons

New Features (Coming in Future)

  • Nemesis System – A new boss progression mechanic where bosses grow stronger each time you defeat them.
    • The more times you kill a boss without looting its reward container, the greater the final reward when you do.
    • Some bosses that can equip items will wield higher-quality gear at later stages, making it beneficial to keep them strong rather than resetting them.
    • If a boss becomes too difficult, simply looting its container will reset it to Stage 1.
  • Completion Bonuses – A gold sink mechanic that allows you to reroll Relic, Charm, and Artifact bonuses if you get an undesirable one.
  • Hidden Quest Rewards – Certain quest rewards, like skill bonuses from the Olive Branch and One-Shot Dungeon rewards, can now be farmed and exchanged for different options.
