在2023年红海对胡塞武装的作战中，艾森豪威尔号航母战斗群发射了24枚标准3，以拦截胡塞武装的各类反舰弹道导弹，包括阿塞夫弹道导弹（源自伊朗法塔赫313弹道导弹，射程450km左右），坦克2弹道导弹（源自伊朗雷霆500弹道导弹，射程500km），以及直接来自于伊朗的Shadab3（流星3）中程弹道导弹。拦截的24枚标准3仅有一枚因动力系统故障脱靶，并被标准6补射。在2021环太平洋军事演习中，日本海上自卫队使用RIM-161D连续开火击落两枚三叉戟2靶弹。其作为美国海军“黄金长弓”的头衔当之无愧。

RIM-161 is an important component of the US Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) system, which focuses on intercepting intercontinental ballistic missiles and various types of hypersonic missiles outside the atmosphere. It entered service in 2002 and was upgraded from RIM-67D Block 4, drawing inspiration from the kinetic warhead of the Israeli Arrow series air defense system. It uses a hypersonic kinetic warhead with a speed of up to 8-14 Mach to crash an incoming missile’s re-entry vehicle, with a maximum range of an astonishing 2500km. Currently, multiple models have been developed, including RIM-161D (Block 2A) and RIM-161E (Block 2B). It can be used by Arleigh Burke destroyers, Ticonderoga cruisers, and land-based Aegis systems.
In the 2023 Red Sea operation against the Houthis, the USS Eisenhower carrier battle group launched 24 Standard 3 missiles to intercept various anti-ship ballistic missiles of the Houthis, including the Assef ballistic missile (derived from Iran’s Fateh 313 ballistic missile, with a range of about 450km), the Tank 2 ballistic missile (derived from Iran’s Thunder 500 ballistic missile, with a range of 500km), and the Shadab3 (Meteor 3) medium range ballistic missile directly from Iran. Out of the 24 intercepted Standard 3 missiles, only one missed the target due to a power system malfunction and was re fired by Standard 6. In the 2021 Rim of the Pacific military exercise, the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force used RIM-161D to fire continuously and shoot down two Trident 2 target missiles. Its title as the "golden longbow" of the United States Navy is well deserved.
