Un Nouveau Monde
"Un Nouveau Monde", French for ‘’A new world’’ offers brand new possibilities to eu4 players looking to colonize the Americas. The mod adds numerous colonial regions and improves the management of colonies with new events, decisions and more. “Un Nouveau Monde – Colonial Overhaul” ensures a rewarding colonization process while making colonies harder to keep and revolutions more likely.
(New) Patch 2.1 introduces a colonial action, "Commission Cultural Report", as well as multiple new events. See the change notes for more details.
Our goal for the original version of “Un Nouveau Monde – Colonial Overhaul” was to improve the colonial map and make colonizing a more engaging experience. With Patch 2.0, we have improved the gameplay experience of colonial empire. Our next focus will be on colonial nation and former colonial nation.
New colonial regions have been added to allow for the creation of more colonies.

Colonial Missions
Colonies and former colonies have access to a new and massive mission tree (±30 missions). Progression will influence development, liberty desire and relations with their neighbors or overlord.
Improve the growth and development of your colonial nations by taking new and special decisions.
- Trade Centralization: Centralize and organise colonial trade around designated trade hubs.
- Unification: Merge your colonies into larger ones.
Religious Mission & Colonial Census decisions have been moved to diplomatic action with the new Cultural Report action
- Send Religious Mission: Send religious delegations in your colonies and help them guide the natives towards salvation.
- Commission Cultural Report: Send a government official to oversee the integration process of your colonies.
- Conduct Colonial Census: Conduct a census in your colonies to gain detailed insights into their population, economy, and infrastructure.
Three new nations are now formable by former colonial nations: Manitoba, Lagwiyann, and Newfoundland. Other formable nations have also been updated to match the new colonial regions.
Explore and colonize to discover the 30 new monuments that have been spread across the Americas & the Pacific. Build and improve them to show the wealth and power of your colonial empire.
We’re still working on balancing them, so if you have any ideas or feedback, feel free to reach out to us!
Additionally, as we’re working voluntarily and are not artists, the Great Project images were created using generative AI. We’d be glad to welcome someone to the team who could help illustrate the mod more authentically.
Colonial Offices
Non-traditional colonizing nations will have the opportunity to fund the construction of a colonial office via a special decision. The colonial offices are special monuments that enhance the colonization capabilities of the nations controlling them.
Only 5 offices can be built throughout the game so make sure to grab one quickly.
Declarations of Independence
The first colonial nations in North and South America to gain their independence will receive a special monument to celebrate their achievement.
Customize your colonial empire by choosing different specializations for your colonial nations. Upon reaching 10 provinces, your colonial nation will provide you different bonuses based on their specialization. Each specialization also comes with a custom set of ideas for the colonial nations.
With the Leviathan DLC, specializations are merged with the existing colonial designations. Each designation will have a custom set of ideas and the bonuses they provided to their overlord have been adjusted.
Specializations (without Leviathan)
- Military Colony: National ideas focused on military power. Provides a missionary to overlord.
- Maritime Colony: National ideas focused on naval power. Provides a merchant to overlord.
- Trade Colony: National ideas focused on trade power. Provides a merchant to overlord.
- Administrative Colony: National ideas focused on growth. Provides a diplomat to overlord.
Colonial Designations (with Leviathan)
- Crown Colony: Provides a missionary to overlord.
- Private Enterprise: Provides a merchant to overlord.
- Self-Governing Colony: Provides a diplomat to overlord.
Unified Colonial Nations
Once unified, a colonial nation will provide a missionary, a merchant and a diplomat to its overlord.
Discover, explore and colonize the New World to build your very own colonial empire. As your empire grows, you will receive more and more bonuses.
If you have at least 1 colonial nation, the mechanics related to your colonial empire can be viewed in the “Colonial Empire” window (in the Government section of the main menu).
Colonial Ambitions
Gain full control over each colonial region to unlock unique empire-wide benefits.
Unification Path
Unify your colonial nation to trigger unique & increasingly better events allowing you to progress towards a new golden age.
“Un Nouveau Monde – Colonial Overhaul” supports all the languages supported by the base game, but only in english currently.
- English
- French
- German
- Spanish
We plan on doing the full French localization in the future, but we don’t know when that will be yet.
No DLC are required for this mod. But we strongly advise you to have the DLCs that enhance the colonial gameplay (some of these may be included in the base game).
- El Dorado
- Conquest of Paradise
- Leviathan
In general, "Un Nouveau Monde – Colonial Overhaul" should be compatible with most small mods that do not change colonies, colonial regions or cultures. Bigger mods that make changes to the map, add or modify tags, or modify subject types might not be compatible.
We have specifically confirmed that the following mods are compatible with “Un Nouveau Monde – Colonial Overhaul”:
- Trade Goods Expanded (for the Domestic Monopolies mission)
- Governments Expanded
- Flavour and Events Expanded (will work but some events may trigger incorrectly)
We will keep this list updated as we check more mods for compatibility issues.
