Description:
DISCLAIMER

This mod is flagged as Beta not because it is unfinished, but rather because even though I have spent countless hours testing and debugging, the mod’s shortcomings, especially balance-wise, can only be unravelled through extensive use. I’m always happy with constructive feedback and polite bug reports !

Mod might be a little imbalanced at first, I’ll tweak the numbers depending on feedback.

Enjoy !

Introduction

This mod completely revamps the lifestyle perks values and changes the focuses of the game, as well as the way you deal with gaining experience altogether. Its core objective is to make you actually work for it – hence the name.

Mod content

  • Making all values tied to lifestyle perks scale on the corresponding skill. No more getting the same bonus regardless of your actual proficiency—if you’re not that good at Stewardship, you’ll get decreased bonuses, and vice versa.
  • All Lifestyle traits now have unlock requirements. After all, they are Lifestyle traits—so you can’t simply pick, say, the Torturer trait just because you decided to focus on Intrigue. You’ll need to progress through its prerequisite perks and actually perform the relevant actions (e.g. torture) before that trait becomes available.
  • Introducing the new “Lifestyle Practice” mechanic: if you stop engaging in a lifestyle, its perk bonuses (and especially your XP‑gain rate in that lifestyle) will steadily decline. Even with all Martial perks unlocked, neglect Martial “stuff” for months or years and your Martial bonuses and XP gains will deteriorate until you resume active practice.
  • Passive Lifestyle Experience gain reduced from 25 to 12 per month
  • Added many active ways to gain Lifestyle Experience
  • 7 new Lifestyle-related Traits, with unique events tied to each
  • 18 new Lifestyle focuses
  • Players only, does not apply to AI

Game Rules

The Game Rules allow you to fully customise your experience, it is of course recommended to play with the default settings for a balanced experience, but if you wish so you can have the mod turn the game into a more challenging or a much easier experience compared to the base game, to your liking.

Practice

Perks Values scaling

Above are values, with default settings, for a character at 16 / 25 / 31 Martial respectively.

Lifestyle traits conditions

Hover over the ‘i’ icon above the Trait icon to see the requirements

New, more unique, Lifestyle focuses

Above are the 3 new focuses for the Martial Lifestyle

Above is the tier 3 Intrigue focus. All tier 3 focuses have their own unique mechanic tied to them that tends to give an incentive to engage in said Lifestyle as much as possible to get rewards.

Ways of earning Lifestyle XP and Practice

Hover over the "XP" icon in each Lifestyle window to see all the actions that can grant you XP and Practice.

Lifestyle Eminent Traits

You can gain these traits through unique events that have a small chance to trigger, provided you’re proficient enough in a Lifestyle. Having a focus selected for a particular Lifestyle greatly increases the chances of the event triggering.

Compatibility

Not compatible with mods that change :
– The window_character_lifestyle.gui
– Lifestyle events
– Many base game interactions and events
See discussions for details
*Should be somewhat compatible with Askil’s More Lifestyles mod ; a submod for it is planned

Savegame compatible
NO

Expect janky side effects if you install the mod mid save.
