BOTA Prologue II – Baltic Fury UPDATED
*Updated to replace the deprecated SAAB AJ-37 Viggen mod*
PROLOGUE II – BALTIC FURY:
In a stunning turn of events, Marshal Nikolai Ogarkov has seized full control of the Soviet Union, sidelining the Communist Party and placing the military in direct command. Under his leadership, Soviet forces have launched a massive offensive across Northern Europe. Following the rapid invasion of Finland and a fresh assault into Sweden, the Soviet Navy attempted—but failed—to land troops on the Danish island of Laesø, thanks to Task Force LYNX (TF 24.1), a U.S.-led surface action group, deployed to secure NATO shipping lanes in the Kattegat.
MISSION:
In response, NATO has deployed reinforced naval elements into the central Baltic Sea. Task Force LYNX (TF 24.1), a U.S.-led surface action group, is now joined by Task Force LION (TF 24.2), a joint UK-German destroyer squadron, bringing advanced anti-air and anti-surface warfare capabilities to the fight. They are supported by the Royal Navy submarine HMS Courageous conducting covert reconnaissance and strike missions. Swedish missile boats and submarines run pre-planned ambush routes, using the Baltic seascape to mask their locations. Overhead, E-3 AWACS, Swedish AJ-37 Viggens and HKP-4C Fӧrsvarsmaktens, Luftwaffe F-4F-BW Jagdbombers, and USAF F-15C fighters provide critical air surveillance and combat air patrols.
Their objective: defend Gotland, interdict any Soviet amphibious operations, and assert NATO control over the Baltic. Once again, as in 1915, the waters off Gotland become the stage for a clash of fleets—only this time, the stakes are global.
CAMPAIGN:
The Battle of the Atlantic campaign unfolds in a dark reimagining of 1984, where Cold War tensions erupt into full-scale war. After seizing power in the Kremlin, Marshal Nikolai Ogarkov launches a lightning invasion of Finland, Sweden, and Norway. Soviet forces pour across Scandinavia and surge into the Norwegian Sea, threatening to sever NATO’s transatlantic lifeline and dominate the GIUK Gap. In response, the U.S. Atlantic Fleet and allied NATO naval forces mobilise for a desperate stand to preserve control of the seas.
From the fog-choked Baltic to the windswept North Atlantic, players will command Task Forces through a series of missions: from the defence of Gotland and interdiction of Soviet amphibious landings, to high-stakes carrier battles in the mid-Atlantic and convoy escorts across submarine-infested waters, to full-scale amphibious warfare. In this struggle for maritime supremacy, every decision counts—and the future of Europe hangs in the balance.
A 25+ mission linear campaign, The Battle of the Atlantic, is inspired by famous naval battles of WWI and WWII.
