BATTTLE OF THE ATLANTIC PART 2 – ODIN’S FLIGHT:
With Finland, Sweden, and most of Norway under Soviet control, Marshal Nikolai Ogarkov’s grand offensive across Scandinavia has entered a brutal final phase. The fall of Oslo and Bergen has handed the Soviets strategic ports along the Norwegian coast, enabling them to project power deep into the North Sea and toward the GIUK Gap. But the Soviet thrust hasn’t stopped there. In the far north, Soviet armoured columns have surged over frozen terrain, outflanking scattered NATO defences and forcing Norwegian and Swedish troops into a desperate retreat. Their final stronghold: Narvik.

Narvik, perched at the edge of the Norwegian Sea, has become a last redoubt for battered Scandinavian defenders. Soviet forces, supported by artillery and naval bombardment, have besieged the port, cutting off overland escape and pressing toward total annihilation. Yet the mountainous terrain and fierce Nordic resistance have bought NATO a fleeting opportunity. Operation ODIN’S FLIGHT was conceived in urgency—a last-ditch, joint UK-Norwegian maritime evacuation to extract what remains of the Scandinavian defenders before the Soviet noose tightens completely.

MISSION:
Reminiscent of the World War 2 evacuation of Narvik – Operation Alphabet (4–8 June 1940), Task Force 24.6 “SNØFALL,” a hastily assembled evacuation flotilla of amphibious ships, logistics vessels, and Norwegian patrol craft, reached Narvik under the cover of midnight fog and hostile fire. Miraculously, the force completed the embarkation of troops and key naval assets. SNØFALL is pushing south through the narrow corridors of the Vestfjorden, bound for open waters and eventual sanctuary in the United Kingdom.

However, Soviet Naval Command has detected the breakout. A Surface Action Group (SAG), likely supported by air elements operating from newly seized airfields near Tromsø, has been dispatched to intercept the convoy. Submarine contacts are increasing, suggesting that the Soviets are attempting to blockade the Vestfjorden exit and strike the evacuation force before it can reach safety. Maritime patrol aircraft report Backfire bomber formations launching from the Kola Peninsula. The skies and seas around SNØFALL are turning lethal.

To counter the threat, Task Force 24.4 “DRAKEN” now steams north to rendezvous with SNØFALL. Following the sinking of the Marshal Ustinov, “DRAKEN” has been resupplied at sea. In support, Task Force 24.5 “TRIDENT”—a group of USN destroyers and frigates—is steaming northward from the North Sea to rendezvous with SNØFALL and reinforce DRAKEN.

Timing is everything. Should the Soviet SAG breach the defensive perimeter or delay the evacuation force, the loss of Narvik’s troops and vessels will be a catastrophic blow—both materially and symbolically. These men and ships represent the last organised resistance from occupied Scandinavia.

For Ogarkov, the north is not merely about geography—it is the key to strategic supremacy. Control of the Norwegian coastline places the GIUK Gap within reach and locks NATO out of the Arctic. Soviet SSBNs can slip into the Atlantic undetected. Shipping lanes between North America and Europe can be severed, isolating the UK and throttling NATO’s ability to reinforce the continent. Ogarkov’s strategy is clear: dominate the northern seas, surround NATO’s flanks, and crush the alliance from its vulnerable underbelly. ODIN’S FLIGHT is more than a rescue—it is a race against the Soviet tide.

CAMPAIGN:
The Battle of the Atlantic campaign unfolds in a dark reimagining of 1984, where Cold War tensions erupt into full-scale war. After seizing power in the Kremlin, Marshal Nikolai Ogarkov launches a lightning invasion of Finland, Sweden, and Norway. Soviet forces pour across Scandinavia and surge into the Norwegian Sea, threatening to sever NATO’s transatlantic lifeline and dominate the GIUK Gap. In response, the U.S. Atlantic Fleet and allied NATO naval forces mobilise for a desperate stand to preserve control of the seas.

From the fog-choked Baltic to the windswept North Atlantic, players will command Task Forces through a series of missions: from the defence of Gotland and interdiction of Soviet amphibious landings, to high-stakes carrier battles in the mid-Atlantic and convoy escorts across submarine-infested waters, to full-scale amphibious warfare. In this struggle for maritime supremacy, every decision counts—and the future of Europe hangs in the balance.

A 25+ mission linear campaign, The Battle of the Atlantic, is inspired by famous naval battles of WWI and WWII. This is my first attempt at developing missions and a campaign. Please let me know in the comments about any bugs or suggestions.
