Regency Rework
In the base game, the Regency system is relatively barebones, relying mainly on repeatedly using interactions to shift the Power Swing. This makes it difficult for players to reach high values and often results in AI struggling to meaningfully engage with the system.
This mod completely reworks how Power Swing is generated and maintained, making Regency more dynamic, political, and based on internal realm influence rather than spammed interactions.
Power Swing is now determined by the support of your realm’s key figures:
• Vassals (Count tier or higher, adult)
• Councilors
Each character will align with one of three sides based on various factors such as:
• Opinion
• Relationships
• Family ties
• Traits
• And other modifiers
Sides:
• Liege Supporters
• Neutral Vassals (no influence on Power Swing)
• Diarch Supporters
Each supporting character contributes to the Power Swing based on their personal influence, meaning more powerful vassals (e.g. kings) have significantly more weight than lower-tier rulers.
If the total influence of Diarch supporters exceeds that of the Liege, the Power Swing will shift toward the Diarch, and vice versa.
This system applies only when:
• The liege is Duke tier or higher (Duke / King / Emperor)
• The realm has at least 3 adult Count-tier vassals
Otherwise, the vanilla Regency system remains unchanged.
• The “vanilla Power Swing interaction spam” is disabled when this system is active.
• The Diarch must gather a minimum level of support to reach higher Power Swing thresholds.
• Example: reaching 100 Power Swing requires ~60% support (values subject to balancing).
• When a Regency ends:
• The Diarch retains their current Power Swing value
• It gradually decays each month
• If they later enter Regency again, they regain their previous value (minus decay)
• Both the Liege and Diarch will actively attempt to sway neutral or opposing supporters.
This system makes playing as a Vizier or Co-Monarch significantly more engaging, as you are effectively operating within a permanent political struggle during Regency periods.
To prevent extreme negative outcomes, diarch opinion penalties from Strife are capped at -10 (instead of reaching extreme values in the base game AI behavior).
The decision to usurp the throne has been adjusted:
• Now considers the support of powerful vassals
• Allows inviting potential conspirators based on political alignment
• Required time spent in Diarchy has been reduced and unified across all situations (including travel-related Regency)
Regency can now also trigger when:
•The ruler is leading their own army in war or raids
This also influences how characters choose sides, adding more political instability during military campaigns.
(Only applies to rulers eligible for this mod’s Regency system: Duke tier and above, and only when leading their own army.)
The “Power Swing” button in the Diarch interface has been replaced with a dedicated Supporter Overview UI, allowing you to:
• View Liege supporters
• View Diarch supporters
• Track influence distribution in real time
This UI is only available during Regency.
Both Liege and Diarch can actively influence the political landscape by:
• Improving opinions
• Forming friendships
• Directly swaying key vassals
AI characters will also actively attempt to influence supporters on both sides, creating a more dynamic and reactive political environment.
