Originally drafted years ago for Europa Universalis IV by the brilliant mind of Weyland, this project finally makes its debut in Europa Universalis V. Way of the Dodo draws inspiration from the spirit of the Age of Discovery, aiming to deepen the exploration experience with new events that capture the wonder, confusion, and consequences of encountering the unknown world, and the things in it, for the first time..
This initial stage of development, including what is released today, focuses on the Flora and Fauna of the world. Including the discovery of Penguins, Dodos, Golden Lion Tamarins, Kakapos, or even Sea Cows grazing in the shallow waters of Alaska.
Although the release starts with a small number of events, the plan is to add new encounters frequently. The project has over 200 planned events, and future updates will likely include the discovery of world wonders and other moments of exploration.
Why?
Personally, I love discovery and always have. Whether it’s travelling in real life, sailing the high seas in games, exploring a mysterious shack in the middle of the desert, or wandering hours in a single direction in Minecraft just to see what lies ahead. Bringing that sense of discovery into a Paradox game has been a long-standing dream. Especially if I can attempt to have people stand where so many historical explorers stood in the past, facing some strange looking bird, and wondering what on earth to do with it…. Back in 2018, I found a few screenshots of a planned Way of the Dodo mod by Weyland. When I learned it had been shelved, I was disappointed. Years of modding later, and with a new game under my belt, I am excited to revive this project and have Weyland back on hand to help bring it to life.

The plan now and always is to remain as hands-off from vanilla as possible. While EU5 introduces new modding tools that allow for more extensive vanilla editing than ever before, maintaining patch compatibility, savegame stability, and ongoing save friendliness is easiest when the project is entirely additive.
This also means that as long as some core elements of the game, such as regions, remain unchanged, the mod should integrate seamlessly with other vanilla-style projects.
