On the morning of June 22, 1941, a tense silence lay over the endless fields of the East before the artillery of Army Group Center shattered that silence with a single strike. Operation Barbarossa had begun. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers set out, endless columns of steel and dust rolling eastward – toward Minsk, Smolensk, and on to Moscow.

For the men of the 9th Army, stationed on the northern wing of Army Group Center, the advance began with a mixture of anticipation, tension, and the uncertain premonition that this campaign would be larger and more merciless than anything they had ever experienced before. Between swampy forests, sandy tracks, and the tireless Russian expanse, the divisions advanced deeper into the country day after day.

As the German tank groups pushed further east, the 9th Army followed, tasked with securing the flanks, closing pockets, and holding the lines they had gained. In these first weeks, the long march route towards Polazk also got underway – a transport hub in the north whose security was important for the advance of Army Group Centre.

At the heart of this growing front was company commander Richard Kramer, a man who gave concise orders and led his men with sober calm. His company was part of the enormous mechanism that was now advancing inexorably toward the east.

In this campaign, you will witness the advance toward Moscow with Kramer’s company.

In this campaign, you will take command of the 101st Heavy Tank Battalion and, under the leadership of Michael Wittmann, go into battle against the 7th Armoured Division to prevent the Allies from breaking through at Villers Bocage.
