Description:

IMPORTANT: You cannot play through the content of this mod as Savoy. The scripts are active for the AI only.Essentially, this mod is meant to be installed if you do not plan to play as Savoy, but still want to see Italy form—or face a genuine unification threat while playing as Austria, France, or any other nation.

This mod introduces a series of journal entries and events strictly for AI Savoy to ensure the formation of the Italian state with accurate borders around 1861.

The mod does NOT follow history on a 1:1 basis. It is designed to ensure the formation of Italy with the correct ruling dynasty and, most importantly, ON TIME.

While it is not guaranteed that Italy will form exactly in 1861, it makes it highly unlikely that it will form in 1870, 1880, or—even worse—in 1920.

How does it work? Once AI Savoy unlocks Nationalism, a Journal Entry (JE) will appear. If Savoy manages to remain both independent AND a Minor Power by 1858, the game will simulate the Plombières Agreement between France and Savoy.

France receives Savoy and Nice, while Savoy receives military support and two claims on Lombardy and Venice.Additionally, the event will unlock a second Journal Entry which starts a countdown to a war to reclaim Lombardy and Venice.
If the war is successful and Savoy manages to reclaim at least Lombardy, another event will fire: Savoy will annex all free Italian states and launch a war against any existing unification candidate to annex them. If the process is successful, Italy will be born.

WHAT IS THE LOGIC? The logic is to ensure the formation of a historical Italy, while allowing the player to alter history if they choose to intervene.
For instance, if the player wishes to stop Savoy from uniting the peninsula, they must either defeat them in war, turn them into an Insignificant Power, or make them a subject. The same logic applies to a player-controlled Italian state or any other nation.

At the same time, a player-controlled France has the opportunity to either accept or refuse the Accords. The second option will alter history significantly, unlocking a generic Journal Entry for Savoy.

The mod is NOT an automatic "Form Italy" button. It is merely a failsafe: If the player does nothing to alter history, history takes its course.

This, in my opinion, is better than… nothing happening.
