Ork Raiders
Warhammer 40k Orks are now available as a raider faction! More accurately, two competing warbands led by different warbosses. They originally came from the same group that attacked Earth after the Elders took over, but their warboss was killed by a sectopod and the two lesser warbosses began a power struggle.
This mod uses a copy of the assets from the Lost2Ork mod (with permission), changing them to raiders instead of lost replacements. The Lost2Ork mod leverages and tweaks the existing lost characters, weapons, abilities, and AI, so all those things were rebuilt in this mod. The few things that are the same were given new template names here, so that the two mods can also be used together without conflicting with each-other.
- Two new Raider groups: "Bludstompaz" on team one and "Gidruzz’ Deffboyz" on team two. And three new sitreps: one for each team, plus a third that spawns both groups. If you only want one raider team present, there is a config setting to exclude the Bludstompaz.
- Much of the code behind the characters, weapons, abilities, and especially AI has been rebuilt from the ground up.
- Orks no longer being lost brings a lot of changes by itself: no headshots, no swarm movement and attacks, fire doesn’t completely shut them down, most can (and will) take cover, and mimic beacons work on them.
- New Fear of Orks trait your soldiers can get. Also a Hunter of Orks positive trait that, by default, is only enabled if More Traits is running. Either trait can be forced on or off as an option in the config.
- New ork-specific icons for weapons and abilities. Many have been copied into EvilBob’s Dejanker for use with Lost2Ork (with or without this mod) as well.
- Lost corpses will no longer be dropped as loot, although several ork types can drop a few supplies or other goodies. Orks can be set to drop meld (by default, only weirdboyz do). Meld drops are automatically converted to drop 2/3 as many elerium crystals instead if there are no active mods that add meld as a resource.
Required
- Highlander (or the Beta version)
Compatible
- Lost2Ork
- Raider Faction Bases, although see the Known Issues for orks on team one
- LWOTC is presumed to be compatible, but hasn’t been tested.
- Raider Relations also not fully tested, but all the necessary settings have been added.
Not Compatible
- Raiders And Resistance Strategic Spawning breaks the mission spawns
- The Raider Faction Bases mod assumes that raiders will be on team two. So, raider covert ops and the mission to attack the raider base have the Bludstompaz, which are normally on team one, switched to team two. During those missions team two is switched to Bludstompaz colors and text.
- Raider Relations also assumes all raiders will be on team two. Gidruzz Defboyz work normally, but Bludstompaz killed in combat while still on team one will not lower their relationship with XCom (the relations mod does not check for deaths on team one). If both groups are present, any Gidruzz Defboyz kills with affect the relationship with BOTH groups.
- Some orks are very quiet, rarely speaking. It hasn’t really been investigated yet.
- It’s an enormous mod that should be cooked to reduce file size, but hasn’t yet. It’s on the to-do list, until then, nothing breaks with it not being cooked.
- Thanks to PumaTheGreat, RealityMachina, the CX team, and Mostly Harmless. Their raider mods were the ones I poked at to understand what was going on (there are others worth mentioning, but these are ones I specifically used for help). Reality Machina gets an extra shoutout for starting the whole idea of raider mods and for Raider Faction Bases.
- Also thanks to BlackBladder and the rest of the Lost2Ork team for the excellent work putting together the assets and the lost versions of the orks.
