Stukovs Medal Bonuses – Open XCOM Commendations
An addon for Custom Soldier Medals that gives your medals mechanical weight. Award commendations through the medal UI, then apply stat bonuses via console commands.
- 65 OpenXcom-inspired medals – A complete replacement medal library with thematic military commendations
- Stat bonuses – Each medal provides small, flavorful stat bonuses matching its theme
- Optional automatic awarding (experimental) – Medals can be granted automatically at mission end when a soldier meets configurable conditions (kills, missions, wounds, healing, and more), with an on-screen notification. Off by default; opt-in via config.
- Trade-off medals – Some medals have negative stats reflecting their nature (e.g., Crimson Heart: +3 Will, -1 Mobility)
- Combat Intelligence medals – Five medals can boost your soldier’s Combat Intelligence tier
- UFOpedia integration – Full lore entries with historical quotes for each medal (requires WOTC UFOpedia mod)
- Fully configurable – Edit XComMedalBonuses.ini to customize all bonuses
- Custom Soldier Medals (Required) – The base medal system
- Lifetime Stats Redux (Required) – Used for stat tracking that drives several features
- WOTC UFOpedia (Optional) – For encyclopedia entries with medal lore
- Award a medal to a soldier using the Custom Soldier Medals UI
- Open the console (~) while viewing that soldier in the Armory
- Type: AwardMedal Medal Name (quotes optional)
- To remove bonuses: StripMedal Medal Name
- To see all medals: ListMedals
Instead of awarding every medal by hand, you can let the mod grant medals automatically when soldiers earn them. This is off by default — the mod works exactly as above unless you turn it on.
To enable: set bEnableAutoGrant=true in the config.
When enabled, qualifying soldiers are awarded the matching medal(s) at the end of a mission, the stat bonus is applied automatically, and a post-mission notification names the soldier and the medal(s) they earned.
- Conditions are fully configurable — set the threshold for kills, missions, healing, damage taken, time served, and more.
- Not all 65 medals have auto-conditions yet; this is an ongoing addition. Medals without a condition are still awarded manually as before.
- Multiple conditions per medal are OR, not AND — if a medal has more than one condition, it’s awarded when any one is met (a medal is only ever awarded once).
- Notifications can be turned off with bEnableMedalPopups=false.
- Combat Excellence (9) – Kill performance medals
- Tactical Excellence (12) – Combat technique medals
- Capture & Restraint (3) – Non-lethal takedown medals
- Psi Warfare (3) – Psionic combat medals
- Valor & Survival (6) – Damage taken medals
- Medical (3) – Healing and support medals
- Mission Participation (6) – Service record medals
- Special Operations (2) – Night mission medals
- Base Operations (2) – Facility assault/defense medals
- Exceptional Performance (4) – Outstanding achievement medals
- Service & Leadership (5) – Long service medals
- Posthumous Awards (6) – Memorial medals
- Bonuses are intentionally small (+1 to +3 for most stats)
- Medals are flavor, not power spikes
- Some medals have trade-offs to reflect their nature
- Combat Intelligence boosts are rare and valuable
- Ability Points are permanent (cannot be stripped)
- Requires a new campaign for the medal library replacement
- Safe to add mid-campaign (bonuses work, but you’ll have the base mod’s medal names)
- No script overrides – purely additive
Edit XComMedalBonuses.ini to customize bonuses. Available stats:
