Grand Remembrance

A chronicle mod for Crusader Kings III

I always felt like something was missing when a ruler died in CK3. You get a notification, maybe a succession crisis, and then it’s on to the next character. But what about everything that ruler actually did? The wars they fought, the friends they made, the crimes they committed, the faith they converted to, the culture they shaped? All of that just… disappears.
Grand Remembrance tries to fix that. When your ruler dies, the mod generates a personalized obituary written by someone who actually knew them. If the chronicler loved them, they’ll write about them with pride. If they hated them, it’ll show. If they barely knew them, you’ll get something cold and factual. The tone changes based on who’s writing it.
Every obituary entry has 7 randomized variants, so even rulers with similar lives won’t read the same way. Over a long dynasty run, the chronicle stays fresh instead of repeating itself.

It’s not just your player character anymore. AI-controlled members of your dynasty can now receive full obituaries and chronicle pages when they die. You choose the threshold — Duke and above, King and above, or Emperor only. Their pages show up in the Dynasty Chronicle alongside your own rulers, so your dynasty’s history isn’t just what you did, it’s what your whole house accomplished.
There’s also a separate option for close family. Turn it on and your parents, siblings, children, and spouse all get remembered when they die, regardless of whether they held a title. That unlanded brother who went off adventuring? He gets a page too. You’ll get a toast notification whenever a dynasty member or family member has their page penned.
- Titles created, gained, and lost over their reign — including year of creation and component holdings
- Battles, wars, and the enemies they made along the way
- Nomad invasions and Chinese expansion campaigns (1.19)

- Alliances, friendships, murders, kidnappings, and executions
- Activities like pilgrimages, feasts, tournaments, and more
- Faith conversions and heritage crossings, with text specific to the origin and destination groups
- Culture changes, government reforms, and languages learned
- Capital moves and major dynastic moments
- Kingdoms and empires granted away, including who they were given to
- RICE-specific titles and distinctions (17 entries, RICE not required)
At the end of a ruler’s life the mod scores how well they fulfilled their education, stayed true to their personality, and what they accomplished. That score translates into real in-game Renown for your dynasty — not just flavor, it actually matters.
Your dynasty builds up a Chronicle Pedestal artifact over time that grows from Common all the way to Illustrious across generations, carrying bonuses with it as it improves. By default, only Legendary-tier obituaries count toward the pedestal, but there’s a game rule to let all tiers contribute if you’d rather see it grow faster.
Everything is configurable from the pre-game setup screen under Flavor:
- Remembrance Awards — Full, Reduced, or Off. Controls prestige, piety, and dynasty prestige from obituary choices. Reputation effects and the Chronicle Pedestal are unaffected.
- Dynasty Member Obituaries
— Player Only, Duke+, King+, or Emperor Only. Sets the title threshold for AI dynasty members to receive obituaries. - Close Family Obituaries
— On or Off. When on, parents, siblings, children, and spouses get obituaries regardless of title or landed status. - Chronicle Pedestal Eligibility
— Legendary Only or All Tiers. Controls which obituary scores count toward the dynasty’s Chronicle Pedestal. - Chronicle Filter — All Chronicles or Qualifying Only. Controls whether the Dynasty Chronicle shows every ruler or just those with Notable+ scores.

Your ruler now has a living chronicle that appears in the Situations tab. It shows a real-time preview of how your reign is being recorded, written from your ruler’s own perspective.
A chronicler is chosen from your court and writes based on their opinion of you — just like the obituary system. Notable events like wars, titles, marriages, faith conversions, and more are woven into the panel text with multiple variants per event type.
Child rulers get age-appropriate text instead. Babies babble at the parchment, toddlers want to draw horses in the book, and teenagers feel the weight of the crown. At 16, the full chronicler system takes over.

Full tracking support for the new conflict types introduced in CK3 1.19:
- Nomad invasions and nomad duchy invasions, with multi-campaign counting
- Chinese expansion campaigns (county seizure, consolidation, grand kingdom invasion), with multi-campaign counting

Title creation now tracks the year of creation, component de jure holdings (up to 3), and supports multiple creation slots for second kingdoms and empires. Titles granted away are also tracked, including who received them.
- Grand Remembrance: AGOT – A Game of Thrones submod.
- Grand Remembrance: EK2 – Elder Kings 2 submod.

Compatible with most mods that don’t heavily overhaul core game systems — cosmetic mods, event mods, and smaller gameplay additions all work fine. More Bookmarks+ has been tested with no conflicts. For total conversion mods, check whether a compatibility submod exists above. The mod can be added to an existing save without issue. Rulers who passed away before installing will not have obituaries, but everything going forward works as normal. If you run into a compatibility issue, drop a comment below and I will take a look.
