Description:
Goal:

This mod aims to rebalance tactical combat by creating a greater distinction between different unit classes and tiers, as well as making combat more deadly by reducing access to additional unit health and defence/resistance.
As with the original mod this is built off, this mod attempts to provide a fair and ideally balanced experience that rewards players that manage to keep their troops alive to the higher experience levels, while spicing up combat and increasing the viability of high level but low tier units.

The original LEVEL UP mod is more aligned with the base game balance, whereas LEVEL UP: Mortal Combat seeks to overhaul it.
Please note only one of these mods should be used at a time.
It is not recommended to remove either mod mid-game, though they won’t break your game.
Adding either mod mid-game is fine.

Method:

This mod overhauls the level up rewards for various unit types with the aim of increasing unit type identity by allowing them to excel in specific roles as they gain experience.
It achieves this through adding/rebalancing level up rewards for each unit type, focusing on ‘class’ specific style passives and abilities.
At the same time it strips the blanket health gains units were receiving each rank, limiting health gains primarily to melee classes with most units gaining between 10HP to 30HP and some none at all.
This preserves the balance between tanky front line units and squishy ranged and support.

Note:
The post medal reward of +10HP remains unchanged as this is an optional feature of game.

UNIT RANK REWARDS:
Shield Unit: Melee support tank, deflects attacks and protects allies.
Soldier: +10HP
Veteran: +10HP
Elite: +10% Damage
Champion: +1 Defence. Deflection (Mod* +1 Defence +1 Resistance against non-flanking attacks.)
Legend: +1 Defence +1 Resistance. Defender (Mod* Adjacent allies gain +1 Defence. Note: can stack.)

Shock Unit (Infantry): Front line breaker, maintain aggression for maximum carnage.
Soldier: +10HP
Veteran: +10HP
Elite: +10% Damage
Champion: +10HP. Aggressive (When this unit attacks an enemy, it gains a stack of +10% Critical Chance. Stacks up to 3 times, lasts 2 turns, all stacks reset when a new stack is gained, can’t be dispelled / countered.)
Legend: +1 Defence +1 Resistance. Brutal (Mod* +50% Critical Hit Damage.)

Shock Unit (Cavalry): Mobile killing power, control the field with superior mobility and devastating charges.
Soldier: +10HP
Veteran: +10HP
Elite: +10% Damage
Champion: +10HP. Charge (Mod* +5% damage per hex travelled, up to 3 hexes.)
Legend: +1 Defence +1 Resistance. Aggressive Tactician (Mod* Unit regains 33% Action Point when killing another unit with a Magic, Melee, or Physical Ranged attack. Works once per turn.)

Polearm: Versatile infantry with strong defensive stances.
Soldier: +10HP
Veteran: +10HP
Elite: +10% Damage
Champion: +10HP. Retaliator (Mod* +1 Retaliation +30% damage via Retaliation Attacks and Opportunity Attacks.
Legend: +1 Defence +1 Resistance. Defensive Attackers (Mod* This unit has +3 Defence against non-flanking Melee attacks.)

Skirmisher: Ultimate flanker, slip through enemy lines to strike down priority targets.
Soldier: +5% Accuracy
Veteran: +5% Accuracy
Elite: +10% Damage
Champion: +10HP. Evasive (Mod* Unit has +15% Evasion.)
Legend: +1 Defence +1 Resistance. Ambusher (Mod* +30% flanking damage.)

Ranged: Ultimate ranged precision, take out priority targets from afar.
Soldier: +5% Accuracy
Veteran: +5% Accuracy
Elite: +10% Damage
Champion: +10HP. Accurate (Mod* Unit has +20% Accuracy.)
Legend: +1 Defence +1 Resistance. Sniper (Mod* +1 range on Physical Ranged attacks.)

Battle Mage: Ranged damage dealer, blast down enemies with critical casts.
Soldier: +5% Accuracy
Veteran: +5% Accuracy
Elite: +10% Damage
Champion: +1 Resistance. Control (Mod* +15% Critical Chance.)
Legend: +1 Defence +1 Resistance. Empowered (Mod* Ignore up to 1 Resistance 2 Status Resistance.)

Magic Fighter: Specialist fighter using magic offensively and defensively to quickly take down armoured foes while resisting most magic based attacks.
Soldier: +10HP
Veteran: +10HP
Elite: +10% Damage
Champion: +1 Resistance. Amplifier (Mod* Ignore up to 1 Resistance 2 Status Resistance.)
Legend: +1 Defence +1 Resistance. Battle Magic (Mod* Unit has: Infused: +1 Defence against non-flanking melee attacks. Aura: +2 Resistance against non-flanking magic attacks.)

Scout: The eyes and ears of the army, detect enemies from afar while guiding troops unseen through enemy territory.
Soldier: +5% Accuracy
Veteran: +5% Accuracy
Elite: +10% Damage
Champion: +10HP. Spy Networks (Mod* Unit has +2 Vision and +2 Sensing range.)
Legend: +1 Defence +1 Resistance. Deceptive Spy (Mod* All units in the army have Universal Camouflage.)

Support: Battlefield buffer, deflect enemy magic while warding nearby troops from attack.
Soldier: +1 Status Resistance
Veteran: +1 Status Resistance
Elite: +10% Accuracy
Champion: +1 Resistance. Spellshield (Mod* +2 Resistance against non-flanking attacks.)
Legend: +1 Defence +1 Resistance. Spellwarden (Mod* Adjacent allies +1 Resistance. Note: can stack.)

Fighter: Melee duellist, evade retaliations while striking through enemy defences.
Soldier: +10HP
Veteran: +10HP
Elite: +10% Damage
Champion: +1 Defence. Vigilant (Mod* This unit has: Vigilant: +3 Defence and Resistance against Retaliation Attacks and Opportunity Attacks. Extra Retaliation: +1 Retaliation.)
Legend: +1 Defence +1 Resistance. Martial Expertise (Ignore up to 1 Defence 2 Status Resistance.)

Mythic: Legendary units both deadly and durable, capable of reaching near godlike power.
Soldier: +10HP
Veteran: +10HP
Elite: +10% Damage
Champion: +1 Defence +1 Resistance. Dominance (Mod* +20% Damage.)

Compatibility:

Only the base game is required.
This mod is compatible with all base game Languages.

This mod edits the same data as my original LEVEL UP mod.
Please choose to play with one or the other.

This mod overwrites the ‘core unit – type’ entries in the UnitTypes_Definitions.rpk and will not be compatible with any other mod that edits the same data. This will be mods that edit the medals, health or combat speed for units on a unit type by unit type basis i.e. all shock units, or all shield units.

This mod edits all of the ‘Unit Upgrades Tiers’ entries in the Tiers_UnitProperties.rpk and will not be compatible with any other mod that edits the same data.
Unfortunately this means it’s incompatible with mods that change rank up rewards based on unit tier.
