What’s this?! The Pesky Moles from Kanto are here too!? How can this be?!

Despite looking unassuming, this team of triplets can trigger incredible earthquakes by burrowing up to 60 miles underground. They think almost exactly alike and coordinate strategies to dig as fast and intensely as possible, and they’re ready to set up their turf in Rivals too!

MECHANIC: Arena Trapped

Dugtrio love to be perpetually buried, and (for better or worse) this is no different in Rivals.
Dugtrio is an extreme glass cannon, sporting incredible ground speed and frame data, but almost no way to actually get off the ground on their own volition. Because of this, Dugtrio is very vulnerable to both being juggled and knocked off stage, but in return can bully slower characters with their excellent agility.
Whenever Dugtrio is airborne, they carry with them a bit of home, too (in the form of a literal crater), so they can always be grounded. This lets Dugtrio use their grounded moves in place of their aerials, although their strongs are still relegated to when they’re back on solid ground.

Neutral Special: Smack Down

Dugtrio demonstrates the power of teamwork to chuck a weighty rock at the opponent. Though a slow and terrible projectile by itself, this move’s true strength lies in its ability to ground opponents!
Foes hit by Smack Down will have drastically reduced jump height for a temporary time, for they’ll be stuck in Dugtrio’s Arena Trap! They can still try to escape with Specials or Air Dodging though, but otherwise, use this time to oppress an opponent with your superior ground game! Smack Down also sends opponents, well, down, making it a cheeky option to spike opponents with.

Side Special: Beat Up

Dugtrio surges forward to try and grab the opponent, beating them up several times if they hit. The forward-moving hitbox can armor through projectiles, giving you an avenue in against projectile-spamming opponents.

Up Special: Air Balloon

It’s a magic balloon! Dugtrio equips the iconic Air Balloon and gains a bit of air time.
With the Air Balloon equipped, Dugtrio becomes much floatier and gains the shocking ability to jump. It’s just a single jump though, but it’s something! You can use USpec again even if you have a balloon to try and get some extra air time.
Be careful though: if you’re hit even a single time, your equipped Air Balloon will pop and you’ll be sent plumetting back down to earth.

Down Special: Pursuit

Dugtrio takes a bold stance and waits for an opponent to act. If an opponent does a defensive/evasive action in Dugtrio’s radius (Parrying, Air Dodging, Rolling, Teching and Tech-Rolling), they’ll get stunned and Dugtrio will swoop in to attack them, breaking their invincibility! This move is powerful, but Dugtrio is left very vulnerable if the opponent doesn’t fall for their bait, so be careful!

Other Moves:

-Down Tilt is Dig, a somewhat disjointed move where one of the Dugtrio brothers will nobly pop out away from the others and ahead of the pack, doing damage to anyone its head makes contact with. Don’t worry, the singular Dugtrio won’t really feel the pain. If you’re airborne using this move, Dugtrio will instead pop out underneath the crater, making for a serviceable spike.
-Down Strong is Dugtrio’s iconic Earthquake. Similar to Olympia Down Strong, you can charge this move to increase its attack range, indicated by the flashes on the ground. It’s easily to avoid if you’re in the air, but if this move hits someone, it’s lights out!
-Forward Strong, Double-Edge, gains additional range the longer its charged for. It has quick start-up but high end lag, so be careful when using it.
