Glep
Glep, the tiny little green freak from the animated adult comedy Smiling Friends, joins Rivals of Aether for Extended Workshop’s Cartoon Jam! Glep is a hyper rushdown, able to easily skitter around the stage and overwhelm opponents with his insane movement stats and incredibly fast frame data. However, he’s also held back by his stubby range, his light weight, and his penchant to get a little lazy sometimes…
Glep has 4 “moods”, indicated by the gauge seen on his HUD and player indicator. His expression on his HUD will also change with his mood.
- Normal – Glep’s standard mood, with no special effects.
- Excited – Glep has increased movement speed and additional properties granted to his special attacks.
- Bored – Glep’s mood is below 25% and he’s on the verge of slacking off. All benefits from being excited are lost.
- Slacking – Glep’s mood is at 0%, inactionable and distracted on his iPad. He’ll get mad at you if you try to make him do something, so don’t bother…
Glep’s mood goes down if he does things that are boring or stupid, such as:
- Running away
- Whiffing an attack (with the exception of Jab, Bair, Dstrong, and all specials)
- Getting hit out of the whifflag of an attack (excluding above moves)
- Whiffing a parry
- Getting hit out of the endlag of a parry
- Spending too long not engaging with opponents
Glep’s mood goes up if he does things that are fun or awesome, such as:
- Rapidly approaching the opponent’s location
- Landing attacks
- Successfully parrying
- Taking a break on his beanbag
- Getting his nommies
- Making opponents smile
Glep takes a seat on his iconic beanbag chair from Smiling Friends Inc.’s break room. The beanbag can act as a small platform. Pressing NSpecial again with the beanbag out will have Glep plummet to the ground to sit on it– sitting on something that isn’t his beanbag, such as the cold hard ground or another platform, has the move gain a small hitbox.
While sitting on the beanbag, pressing JUMP or PARRY will cause him to hop off of it– he can do this in any of the four cardinal directions. If he’s idle on the beanbag for long enough, he’ll take a nap and his mood will gradually go up.
Pressing SPECIAL will have Glep take a quick break as a minigame/quick time event! While he’s vibing, you will be prompted with a short series of inputs. Correctly entering them all will grant a large boost to Glep’s mood and make him excited! Screwing them up, however, will lower Glep’s mood by a lot. You can also cancel this minigame without any penalty with JUMP or PARRY.
Glep spitefully hocks a loogie as a quick, short-ranged projectile. Though this projectile has the polite effect, it also possesses a high amount of hitstun and sends at an inwards angle, making it ideal for extending combos on opponents who stray too far from you. When Glep is excited, he can spit twice in succession.
Using the nail that holds the entire Smiling Friends Inc. building to the ground, Glep leaps upwards and then pins it into the stage on impact. This move can also be used to pin yourself to walls. While pinned to a wall, pressing JUMP will cause Glep to leap upwards, while pressing SHIELD or DOWN will cause him to let go and fall normally. Landing this move’s sweetspot on opponents will cause them to get pinned, leaving you free to follow up with essentially any move. When Glep is excited, this move’s startup is reduced and Glep both leaps further and descends faster.
Wait up man, what the ♥♥♥♥, you started the Bubonic Plague?! Huh, you think that’s funny? What the ♥♥♥♥, man?! ♥♥♥♥ you! You’re a sick ♥♥♥♥, man.
Glep coughs up some black goo in a short-ranged attack in front of him, infecting opponents with the bubonic plague. In the air, he’ll cough downwards for a weak spiking hit. This move doesn’t do much on its own, but interval between damage ticks is significantly reduced if the infected opponent is in hitstun, and it’ll also tick even faster if Glep is excited! I can go faster! ICANGOFASTERICANGOFASTER!! ROOOOOOOOAAAAAAUUUUURGH
Opponents infected with the plague can remove it if they damage Glep enough, or if they parry him.
Glep has a wall cling.
Jab only consists of a rapid jab. Holding ATTACK will spam it, and it can be tilt cancelled like any other jab. You’re just button mashing, Glep, there’s no skill to that…
DAttack and DTilt have unique interactions with the beanbag if ATTACK is held. DAttack will cause Glep to sit on it, while DTilt will cause him to bounce off of it.
Glep’s FStrong, 401k Punch, will cause him to walk forward while charging it.
UStrong causes Glep to hop onto a box while using it, which acts as a platform that only he can stand on.
DStrong has Glep angrily break his iPad on his knee in a huff, then toss it on the ground behind him. While his iPad is broken, Glep cannot slack off– if you find your mood too low, you can use this move to save yourself! The longer the move is charged, the longer the iPad stays broken.
There is an easter egg present on Glep’s Taunt.
