Merc: Saiyori Mahokaji

I higly recommend to give the whole bunch of ‘The Other Ones’ a try as a team. Skat, Pina, Igwa, Laboum, Yori and Cutness are designed to fit together pretty well. Here is the collection.

Saiyori grew up bilingual as the daughter of an american diplomat and her japanese mother. Her parents recognized her technical talent and interest in science at an early age. After completing the diplomatic services and moving over to the United States, they made it possible for Saiyori to study at the California Institute of Technology. Since her university days Yori is called a nightowl and a bat, because her mind never sleeps. Even at night and in freetime her thoughts always circle around technical solutions and ideas.

Yori graduated with excellent grades and received an award for her scientific work in the field of ultrasonic and sonar. Initially only engaged as a technical supervisor for new, experimental equipment in several UN missions, she then met Malina Blizna and eventually joined to AIM.

• Like a Bat

  Even half asleep, exhausted and in sparse lighting Yori does everything with highest precision. In dark conditions she has 2 AP extra per round.

• Sonar View & Sonar Grenade

  Yori produces one Sonic Grenade every 72 hours. When she hits at least two enemies with it, all opponents in the sector become visible until the end of next turn.
  Attention: Only Yori can handle the highly sensitive electronics inside the throwing cylinder to trigger the Sonar View effect.

• Yoris Wonderbox

  If one of five charges of the wonderbox is triggered, it recharges perks, heals wounds, adds +10 Grit at once and a random mechanical item is 3D printed. As long as there is at least one charge left, it repairs equipped weapons, armor, and items automatically over time.

• Wrench

  With this inconspicuous tool you are as dangerous as with a combat knife to loosen the screws of your opponents.

Her stats, perks and items make her a support character obviously for technical and mechanical issues in the first place. But with her exceptional wisdom she is highly trainable into the direction she is needed.

Yori comes fully voiced with over 140 individual voicelines recorded with a voice changer. I blended in some japanese phrases, words and rants in a way, that everyone can still understand it without actually speaking the language.

I heavily edited a generated image to get the artwork for Yori (Yes, detailing and coloring was done by hand). The wonderbox and the wrench are edited and recolored photos. The Sonar Grenade artwork is an altered image of a smoke grenade. Perk and status icons are created with Illustrator and Photoshop.

Besides bugfixes (and maybe some minor tweaks recently) the mod is finished. As a member of the merc team ‘The Other Ones’ some campaign stuff is already in the early planning stage, to shed some more light on background stories of the group. But a reliable time schedule can’t be given at that point.
