Small Maps Removal
This will remove some of the smaller maps from the game, both base game and modded.
- Are you playing with lots of pods and are tired of pods stacking?
- Are you playing with Yellow Alert and smaller maps are causing chain reaction of pods alerting each other because they’re all in close proximity to each other?
- Tried of fighting multiple pods at the same time?
- Are you running a lot of mod maps but you barely see them?
- Do you remember some cool modded maps that you fought on once, but never saw it again?
Over the course of lots of campaings, I have been removing a lot of those smaller and narrow maps that are just frustrating to play on heavily modded game, as those just don’t allow pods to spread properly and neither give you the chance to properly spread your troops and flank for example.
Currently it removes:
15 maps (4 slums, 5 city centers, 6 small towns)
1 map (small town)
8 maps (2 slums, 3 city centers, 2 small towns, 1 ufo wilderness)
1 map (small town)
The final goal is to have a roster of decent-sized maps that are fun to play and are allowing a variety of strategies, rather than being forced to fight in a narrow pathways over and over again against overwhelming numbers.
It is NOT RECOMMENDED to use this mod if you’re NOT USING a lot of map mods. Otherwise chances are you’ll be playing on the same maps over and over again.
I can recommend my collection which has all stable map mods currently available: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3477117724
I have been playing with those for years and had no issues. Just be sure to follow what’s written in description there and disable 2 plots from MGee’s WOTC Highways.
If you sub to all of those maps, even with this mod installed, the pool of available maps is still huge. Some modded maps still occur only like once per camapign and there are some that I last time saw like 2 or 3 campaings ago.
I’ll be updating the mod and removing more maps over the course of time as I encounter them in my campaings, so if you’ll be adding some maps to the config yourself, make sure to do a local backup.
Use PrintLevelInfo command from [WOTC] XpanD’s Console Commands. It will show you map’s name at the very top of console’s window. You can also see MapName= in my screenshot to see and know what to look for in console. Then you have to use notepad++ "search in files function".
In the filters use *.ini
In directory make 2 paths:
SteamsteamappscommonXCOM 2XCom2-WarOfTheChosen
Steamsteamappsworkshopcontent268500
One is for finding base game maps while the other for modded ones.
Type in your result from console and search in both directories. One of them should return result. Double click the search results at the bottom and it will automatically take you to file which contains it. Copy that line to my XComPlots.ini and add – in front of it.
