Malaysia: Guarding the Straits
Malaysia: Guarding the Straits brings the strategic challenges of maritime Southeast Asia to Sea Power, featuring Malaysian naval and air forces during the formative decades of the 1960s to the 1990s. As part of the SOUTH EAST ASIA COLLECTION, it forms part of a series of country-focused modules representing the naval and air forces of the region.
The mod centres on joint air–sea operations across a divided geography, spanning the Malay Peninsula and Borneo, a theatre defined by narrow straits, contested coastal waters, and dispersed island approaches.
It highlights the development of Malaysia’s armed forces, from counter-infiltration and coastal security operations to the establishment of a capable maritime defence force focused on sovereignty, sea control, and regional security.
Fleet and air assets are presented according to realistic historical availability, deployment, and doctrine, reflecting the unique operational challenges of defending a geographically split nation.
A developing maritime force focused on patrol, minesweeping, and the establishment of sovereign maritime control in coastal and littoral environments.
