Action off Georgetown
During the Falklands War Venezuela has renewed interest into it’s claims of over the Essequibo region of Guyana. Venezeulan forces have built up around the disputed border, and naval vessels are attempting to form a trade blockade to force concessions. As a Commonwealth nation Guyana has asked for military assistance. With the majority of Royal Navy forces committed to the South Atlantic, the Admiralty have dispatched a small group of destroyers and frigates as a show of force and trade protection.
Command TF Southampton centred around two Type 42 destroyers and two Type 22 frigates to interdict Venezeulan blockade forces.
