Description:
If you’ve never tried Allies Unknown before and want to get into it this post lists off most of the related mods you might need.
Any dependencies that call for Allies Unknown Redux can be ignored in AML while this mod is active.
As a full redux. This mod mustn’t be used alongside the original Allies Unknown Redux (or my previous add-on mod)! Wait for a new campaign to make the switch!

I’ve been tinkering with Allies Unknown’s code and there’s a limit as to what can be achieved through a 3rd party mod instead of reshipping the entire code and changing stuff. That is what this mod is for. Now, we go to RealityMachina for what exactly this mod does:

Description

Humanity isn’t the only species willing to fight against the long reign of terror and servitude the Ethereal Collective has brought to wherever they went, XCOM just needs to spend time (and resources) finding them.

Allies Unknown is a meta mod that enables players to recruit non-human resistance fighters with other mods made for this mod. They can be gained through scanning sites, mission rewards, their own version of the black market, etc.

Each species will have its own recruitment cost, along with potential requirements (ie requiring that the resistance be active for x amount of time, or for the aliens to have gained enough force level, more custom requirements to come 😉 ). Otherwise, they will integrate with however the mod maker has defined them. If they’re designed to be like humans and access both vanilla and mod classes, they will do so. If they’re designed to have their own class ala Playable Aliens, that is also a choosable goal.

Also adds a custom mod faction called the Liberated. They come with their own resistance orders, HQ support, and covert actions. They may not be able to help XCOM fight the Chosen directly, but they can help provide the means of their destruction on the battlefield. Increasing influence with the faction requires that the player progresses the plot: do story missions and you’ll get access to their influence covert actions.

How To Make Mods For This

Make an .ini in your config folder of your mod called XComAlliesUnknown.ini.
Check this very mod’s XComAlliesUnknwon.ini file for a description of what config values can be set and how exactly to set up your new species.

New Features

The full list of new features compared to Allies Unknown Redux can be found here.

Among them, this mod offers:

  • Full LWOTC Compatibility: just like my original add-on version, this mod handles everything to make Allies Unknown species useable with LWOTC (full changes listed here); the Vipers module is NOT compatible with LWOTC, it is known to cause crashes–use it at your own peril;
  • New Icons and Themeing: the original Allies Unknown’s alien faction was Mass-Effect-themed, in this redux, I make it XCOM-themed by default, with new, custom-made faction icons by yours truly;
  • Gray Market synced to Black Market: the custom Market where you can recruit alien soldiers will be available once the Black Market is discovered (and not when it is closed!); this should respect, for example, the Gone to Ground DE;
  • Automatically Scaling Costs: did you change the recruit price for regular rookies and now the alien rookies are all out of whack? By default this mod will scale the non-human recruits’ cost based off of your regular rookies, as well as the market prices based off your black market soldiers;
  • Alien Recruit Joins in for Gatecrasher: you can now have the first alien recruit that would regularly be waiting for you on the avenger to join your fight on Gatecrasher, through this new Second Wave Option;

Credits

Despite my numerous tweaks, this mod would not exist without RealityMachina‘s framework in the original mod. Special shout outs to Rusty and Sherin for help with the new custom art for this mod!
