Pear’s New Men-at-Arms Traditions
Designed to be compatible with base CK3 and AGOT!
This mod adds traditions only available to the player that provide new unique Men-at-Arms and cultural traits to help differentiate custom cultures and realms from their neighbours.
These may be a little imbalanced, but the goal is to provide a strong identity and interesting units and mechanics.

Currently includes five traditions and seven MAA:
"Bronze Marines"
This tradition adds a unique Heavy Infantry MAA who have moderate stats but counter Skirmishers, Archers, and other Heavy Infantry. The tradition also makes Tradeports benefit stationed MAA, grants the ability to sail in major rivers, halves embarkation cost, and removes combat penalties when disembarking or crossing bodies of water. However, it does lower the number of Heavy Cavalry units that can be recruited.
"Sergeants-at-Arms"
This tradition adds a unique Heavy Infantry MAA and a unique Heavy Cavalry MAA, both of whom are slightly adapted versions of their generic competitors, with a greater focus on countering unit advantages and affordability. The tradition also makes martial traits more valuable and allows the recruitment of more MAA, at the cost of a slight decrease to the number of knights that can be fielded.
"Shifting Sands"
This tradition adds a unique Archer MAA – the Desert Furies – with high damage but low defense. It also adds desert-related bonuses such as increased levies and supplies, and a boost to advantage when fighting in your own territory. Lastly, it slightly reduces your hard casualties and retreat losses.
"Rivers in the Desert"
This tradition adds Oasis Lancers, a unique Heavy Cavalry MAA with balanced stats who are slightly weaker in the main phase than normal Heavy Cavalry, but offer better pursuit and screening abilities in return, as well as a reduced recruitment cost. The tradition also positively affects development, supply limit, and construction costs in drylands, oasis, and floodplains.
"Martime Republics"
This tradition adds two unique MAA: the Harbour Guard – archers who offer increased survivability and solid damage, and Bucklermen – counter-infantry who are stronger but more expensive than regular skirmishers. The tradition also allows the creation of Republican vassals whilst increasing the tax they pay and lowering city building costs. Lastly, it makes coastal holdings safer and more beneficial, and discounts embarkation costs.
"Standing Armies"
This tradition completely removes levies for cultures with this, but adds seven unique ‘Bold’ MAA who are enhanced versions of the standard MAA types in game, along with making their recruitment cheaper and providing a range of other buffs. This tradition is built for those who want to have small armies of truly professional troops, rather than huge levy forces.
A dynasty legacy version of this tradition also exists, which is slightly simplified from the tradition but still gives the unique MAA and associated buffs, and removes levies. The legacy version is for those who don’t want an entire culture to turn to professional armies, but want just their played Dynasty to do so.

These traditions and MAA have further text in game that explains their themes and adds some more flavour.

Generative AI was used in creating the Man-at-Arms art in this mod; the base unit designs were created by me in modelling software, then given backgrounds and made to fit CK3’s art style by AI.
All code, localisation, and flavour text was written manually by me.
I do not support the use of AI to replace real artists or other creatives. I am a hobbyist modmaker who mostly makes mods for my own use. I have used AI art to visualise my ideas as I cannot reasonably afford to pay a real artist to do it, and I don’t wish to inflict my own lack of artistic skill on anyone.
