Description:

Is the vanilla AI ruining your immersion by wasting its treasury on buildings in low-control provinces for 0 ROI, picking useless government reforms and estates privileges, relying entirely on peasant levies rather than a proper regular army, and creating horrific bordergore?

REAI (Rational Empire AI) is a comprehensive script-level overhaul that forces the AI to manage its empire like a calculating, logical state. By utilizing custom script injections and strict logic gates, this mod ensures the AI prioritizes a professional army of Regulars over weak levies, maintains a rock-solid manpower reserve, manages its government reforms optimally, and dictates clean, strategic expansion.

🔥 BRAND NEW SUB-MOD RELEASED! 🔥
While REAI fixes the AI’s desire to use Regular troops, the vanilla engine sometimes still fails to build the necessary Armory/Barracks to support massive mid/late-game armies. For the ultimate experience, I highly recommend running my official sub-mod, REAI: Army & Manpower Overhaul (AAMO), which forces the AI to physically build manpower buildings!

⏳ A QUICK HEADS-UP

Just a quick note before you start: REAI isn’t a "magic buff" mod. It doesn’t hand out free population or hidden tax cheats to the AI.

If you run an observe game and expect to see massive statistical differences in the early game, you won’t see much. In the first few decades, the AI is simply laying its foundation. It focuses on revoking bad reforms and picking the better ones, even though early-game countries usually only have 2 or 3 reform slots available.

To be fair to Paradox, since the 1.2 update, the vanilla AI is already quite good at basic tax management. REAI simply adds an extra layer of polish to it. The REAL focus of this mod is better reform and estate management, as well as military and AI logic: fixing crown power, implementing tax reforms, utilizing better estate privileges, transitioning to a professional army of Regulars, prioritizing specific manpower buildings and infrastructure, making smarter and less cowardly wartime maneuvers, and actively avoiding bordergore.

The real snowball effect kicks in during the mid-to-late game. Bad AI nations will still fail, but the smart ones will slowly build a rock-solid economy and a battle-ready professional core. Give it time to cook.

🚀 Core Features & 1.2 Update

🏗️ Smart Economy & Infrastructure
  • Control-Based Building: AI refuses to waste money in low-control provinces, instead consolidating its wealth in high-value heartlands to maximize ROI and build a truly formidable economy.
  • Infrastructure Priority: Roads, Temples, Bridges and Pound Lock Canals are prioritized before heavy economic investments.
  • Village-Tier Automation: Estates can now independently construct Village-tier buildings and essential infrastructure, a feature restricted in vanilla EU5.
  • Hospital Pop Growth: Hospitals now provide a +0.10% Population Growth bonus.
  • Treasury Management: Maintains a stable treasury and targets a healthy profit margin.

⚖️ Dynamic Government & Reforms
  • Age-Manager Bridge: AI prioritize Crown Power and Tax Efficiency, selects optimal reforms (Royal Decree, Privy Council, Universal Serfdom, etc.) based on the current Age, and actively wants to enact the infamous Favor the Ruler law 😀
  • Auto-Clutter Removal: Removes outdated or inefficient reforms to free up slots for stronger upgrades.
  • Estate Logic: Smart privilege management maximizes crown power and tax efficiency without destabilizing the nation.

⚔️ Strategic Warfare & Anti-Bordergore
  • Clean Borders: Strong preference for adjacent provinces (75x weight), avoiding nonsensical land grabs.
  • Regular Army Focus: Adjusted the AI’s internal preferences to maintain a higher ratio of professional regular troops (Regulars) instead of over-relying on peasant levies.
  • Strategic Military Balance: The AI now calculates its military needs based on its actual tax base and manpower limits, keeping its professional core battle-ready without draining the national treasury.
  • Focused & Rational Engagements: The AI acts more logically and is much less cowardly during wars. Instead of splitting its forces into 6 small, vulnerable stacks (the vanilla limit), it will actively try to consolidate its military into 2 main, powerful armies.

🛡️ Advanced Stability & Anti-Bankruptcy
  • Bankruptcy Logic: AI no longer panic-taxes during debt. It prioritizes long-term repayment (180 months), avoiding endless civil wars and economic collapse.
  • Satisfaction Safety Net: Uses Quadratic Utility (Quad=4). The AI will try to refuse tax increases if estate satisfaction risks dropping below 25%, effectively trying to prevent the catastrophic "0 levy" problem.
  • Dynamic Stability: Wealthy nations try to push towards 100 Stability.
