Great War

The age of limited conflicts is coming to an end.

Great War adds a dynamic late-game crisis system to Victoria 3, where Great Power rivalry, military buildup, infamy, colonial competition, and diplomatic instability can push the world toward a catastrophic global war.

As World Tension rises, the international order begins to crack. Great Powers divide into rival blocs, crises escalate, ultimatums are issued, and eventually one side may issue a Call to War. After a short mobilization period, the world can be dragged into a conflict that reshapes the balance of power.

World Tension

World Tension rises from Great Power wars, infamy, arms races, colonial competition, military expansion, and dissatisfaction with the existing order.

At lower tension, the world enjoys peace dividends. As tension grows, nations gain military and diplomatic pressure bonuses, but the risk of a global war increases. At critical levels, the Central Powers leader may begin the chain that leads to the Great War.

The Great War

Once the Great War begins, victory is not only decided on the battlefield.

Casualties, radicalism, and social unrest increase National Discontent. If the home front breaks, armies may mutiny or revolution may erupt. Wartime decisions can help you survive, but every choice has a cost.

After the War

A decisive victory can create a new world order. Defeated Great Powers may lose influence, pay reparations, and see their subjects break away. A stalemate may preserve the old order, but not without scars.

The League of Nations may rise from the ruins, offering a new diplomatic framework to reduce tension, sanction rogue states, and prevent another global catastrophe.
