Tired of your hunters wandering randomly, ignoring the wolves bearing down on them, and dying in melee with bears they could have outranged? Hate that upgrading to the Hunter Lodge feels like a downgrade? Mad that fishing shacks don’t compete?
Warden of the Wilds creates a real specialization choice for the Hunter Lodge. It gives hunters proper survival instincts, adds passive trap-based fishing, and puts the missing small game back in your world.

🆕 What’s New (v1.0.11)
  • Trap Master meat-stuck bug — fixed. Several players reported having to salvage and rebuild their Trap Master lodges because meat was piling up past the cap and going invisible to smokehouses, wagons, and cellars. Root cause: bear bonuses were being deposited into the wrong storage pool. Fixed in v1.0.8, hardened in v1.0.9 with a per-item cap clamp. Existing affected saves auto-migrate on load — no rebuild needed.
  • Stutter elimination. Eliminated a periodic ~30-second hitch (15s at 2x speed) caused by mod-internal scene scans. Component attachment is now event-driven via Harmony patch on Building.Awake — zero scene polling in steady state.
  • Hunter Lodge T2 path now persists across save/reload. Trapper Lodge / Hunting Lodge selection is written to the save file alongside vanilla building data.
  • Hunter equipment gate. Bow + arrows required for hunter work to actually proceed.
  • Hunter Cabin Defense Fire. Sheltering hunters now fire on close threats from inside the cabin.

Big Game Hunter
  • 35% larger work radius
  • 2 hunters per lodge
  • Improved kiting logic + off-road speed bonus to outpace predators
  • BGH Yield Bonus on predator kills (bear, wolf, boar)
Trap Master
  • Trap cost removed
  • Faster trap cycle and +60% pelt yield
  • Water proximity bonus when placed near rivers, streams, or lakes
  • Chance to trap a bear for huge bonus yield
Hunter Combat AI

Hunters finally try to survive a fight:

  • Kiting — back away during reload, return to fire
  • Pursuit leash — break off chases that wander past 1.5x work radius
  • Out-numbered detection — retreat when 2+ aggressive animals are too close
  • Multi-predator retreat — full retreat if hit by two predators within 5s
  • Wounded retreat — refuse to engage below 50% HP
  • Cabin reemergence — wait for threats to clear before exiting cabin
  • T1 melee discipline — T1 bow hunters refuse melee unless target is sub-10% HP
Hunter Control
  • Hunter Rally — press Ctrl+K to select every hunter on the map
  • Control Groups — assign hunters to Ctrl+# groups (like military)
Fishing — Angler & Creeler

Two modes, tech-gated on Sustainable Fishing.

Angler
  • +50% fish per catch
  • 35% faster fishing speed
  • +15 carry capacity (40 vs vanilla 25)
Creeler
  • Passive trap-based income on an 8-day cycle
  • Works year-round, including winter
  • 2x fishing radius
  • 5 visible willow basket traps deploy in water around the shack
Spawn Tuning
  • +50% bears, +25% wolves (configurable)
Other Improvements
  • Tier-2 butcher speed buff — 25% faster carcass processing per worker
Configuration

Every value is tunable via MelonLoader preferences:

  • Path multipliers (radius, speed, yield) per Trapper / Hunting Lodge
  • Combat thresholds (HP retreat, ambush count, pursuit leash)
  • Spawn multipliers per animal type
  • Trap counts and intervals
  • Master enable + per-subsystem toggles for diagnosing performance
Compatibility
  • Farthest Frontier v1.1.0 (Mono build)
  • Compatible with Tended Wilds, Manifest Delivery, Keep Clarity, and other SageDragoon mods
  • Adds one int per Hunter Lodge and Fishing Shack to saves for mode persistence — vanilla silently ignores it if the mod is removed
