Description:
What is this mod?

WOTC Psionic Swordmaster adds a custom soldier class built around psionic swordsmanship, short-range mobility, and Focus management.

The Psionic Swordmaster is a close-range combat specialist who controls space through psionic movement, defensive barriers, and reactive blade techniques. Rather than simply charging into melee, this class is designed around choosing when to build Focus, when to spend it, and when to hold it for defensive or reactive options.

About the Class

The Psionic Swordmaster fights with a dedicated weapon, the "Psionic Longsword", and uses Focus as their core resource. Other swords technically work too, though they may not be entirely lore-compliant.

Focus allows the class to fuel powerful sword techniques, maintain psionic defenses, and support abilities that reward careful positioning. A well-played Psionic Swordmaster can protect allies, punish enemy movement, and deliver decisive close-range attacks, but poor resource management can leave them exposed at the wrong moment.

The class is intended for players who enjoy aggressive positioning, reactive melee combat, and resource-based tactical decisions. Please check the video for more detailed implementation and effects of the abilities.

The video was recorded before completion, so there are some minor differences from the actual class mod. (Warp sound, unimplemented psionic explosion VFX when striking with the sword, mental focus cost not displayed on the focus bar, etc.)

Class Concept
  • A custom psionic melee soldier class.
  • Focus-based resource management.
  • Psionic barriers and defensive utility.
  • Reactive sword techniques against enemy movement.
  • Powerful late-game psionic sword abilities.
LWOTC Compatibility

This mod includes dedicated compatibility support for both standard WOTC and Long War of the Chosen (LWOTC).
A separate LWOTC class template is automatically enabled when Long War of the Chosen is detected. Under normal WOTC campaigns, the standard WOTC class is used.
When LWOTC is active, the mod automatically replaces the standard class template with the dedicated LWOTC version to ensure proper compatibility with Long War systems and soldier progression mechanics.

Compatibility Notice:

When used together with:

[WOTC] Psionic Monk Class

or

[LWOTC] Psionic Monk Class

Psionic Swordmaster may have a compatibility issue affecting teleport traversal animations.

When performing normal cursor-based movement across elevation changes (standard movement, not ability movement), teleport traversal animations provided by Psionic Swordmaster may fail to display correctly.

This issue only affects animation visualization. Functional behavior remains unchanged.

This issue can be resolved by installing the compatibility patch below:

[WOTC] Psionic Monk & Swordmaster Compatibility Patch

You only need this patch if you are using both Psionic Monk and Psionic Swordmaster together. If you are not using both mods together, you do not need to install it.

Requirements

You must subscribe to all required items listed in the workshop dependencies.
This mod requires the War of the Chosen expansion.

Important Notes

This class is intentionally designed to be powerful, especially when Focus is managed effectively.

Most gameplay values can be adjusted through the .ini files in the Config folder, including Focus values, damage, cooldowns, shield values, and other ability settings.

Main configurable file:

XComPsionicSwordman.ini

This mod has been tested extensively, but unexpected interactions, compatibility issues, or edge cases may still occur. If you encounter any issues, please report them in the comments.
