Description:

Ever watched your vassals sit around doing nothing while a foreign power threatens your realm, even when their own titles are at stake? Or seen the Byzantine Emperor completely ignore yet another peasant revolt as his realm slowly spirals out of control?

Never again. This mod unlocks the full potential of the Join War interaction for AI rulers, turning previously stale wars into dynamic, large-scale conflicts that bring new life and challenge to your playthroughs. Currently supported game version: 1.19.*

Features

No more sitting on the sidelines:

Vassals will now fight alongside their lieges, lieges will help their vassals crush peasant revolts, while suzerains and tributaries will mutually protect each other in defensive wars. Major wars over kingdom-level titles and above can escalate into massive engagements rivaling Great Holy Wars in scope, with numerous participants rallying to each side. Additionally, the mod addresses several issues with the Protect Vassal interaction, allowing AI lieges to actually aid their vassals when Border Wars Policy is set to Conditional Join.

A new layer of strategic planning:

Your vassals, tributaries, liege and suzerain can all be valuable supporters… if you can win them over. Participation in wars via the Join War interaction is free, but voluntary, and depends on many factors:

  • As a liege or suzerain, an alliance or very high positive opinion are the most reliable ways to secure your subjects’ support.
  • As a subject, some positive opinion with your liege or suzerain is often enough to expect help.
  • Common reasons to abstain include being too young, in debt, already fighting as a primary attacker or defender, having an unfavorable personality (very cowardly or very unenergetic), or simply disliking the war leader.
  • Any of the above concerns will be set aside if own titles are under threat, unless the war leader’s forces already outnumber the enemy.
  • Endangering a hostage is a particularly strong reason to abstain.
  • In sprawling realms like the HRE, subjects will ignore wars too far removed from their own domain.
  • Theocratic subjects have little interest in secular disputes.
  • Bold subjects will often seek glory in offensive wars, honorable subjects will often assist in defensive wars, zealous subjects will often join any valid holy wars for their faith.
  • The Loyal trait encourages vassals (but not tributaries) to join any wars regardless of cause, while Disloyal vassals prefer to avoid them altogether.

Stronger Scandinavian Adventurers:

To keep landless Scandinavian Adventurers a credible threat, their levy size bonus from initial enemy military strength is slightly reduced, but they gain extra levies and Men-at-Arms that scale with the enemy’s primary title tier instead. This mod also fixes an issue where Scandinavian Adventurer leaders and their knights would teleport directly to the target location ahead of their army, sometimes ending wars prematurely.

This lightweight mod can be safely added or removed anytime during an ongoing playthrough. It is designed to be compatible with Unofficial Patch by integrating any changes to the affected files.
