[1.13] Custom Chartered Companies
Tired of settling for generic companies when the special ones get all the interesting industry combinations?
Custom Chartered Companies adds a design mode to the Companies panel, letting you create your own chartered companies when you have an available company slot.
Pick the main industry, secondary industry, and prestige goods directly from the Companies interface, then enable the matching custom company.
Requires Charters of Commerce DLC.
Use it to build companies around the economy you are actually developing, without being locked into vanilla’s narrow special company requirements.
Keep your multi-select choices minimal.
Design Mode can show many companies at once. If you select too many main buildings, secondary buildings, or prestige goods at the same time, the Companies list may try to display more entries than the game can handle and the game can crash.
Use narrow selections, create the company you want, and then turn Design Mode back to No.
- Open the Companies panel and expand the Design Mode area.
- Select one or more main building types, secondary building types, and prestige goods.
- Set Design Mode to Yes.
- Briefly unpause the game, or unpause and pause again, so the company list updates on the next in-game tick.
- Sort by productivity to quickly find the best matching company for your economy.
- After creating the company, set Design Mode back to No.
Performance note: If Design Mode is left enabled, the matching custom companies will stay visible in the list and may slow down the game.
- Design custom chartered companies from the Companies panel.
- Choose one or more main and secondary building types.
- Choose one or more prestige goods produced by the selected main building types.
- Compare many possible company designs at once with multi-select.
- Uses vanilla-style company filter UI and building tooltips.
- Compatible with Community Mod Framework (CMF).
- Currently supports 3569 different companies, depending on primary building, secondary building, and prestige good.
- Design Mode does not create a company directly from the order you click things in.
- The filters work more like reverse filters: every valid company matching the selected main building, secondary building, and prestige good filters will appear in the list.
- The order of your selections does not matter.
- You need at least one main building type and one secondary building type selected.
- If the selected primary building can produce prestige goods, you also need to select one or more matching prestige goods for those prestige-good companies to appear.
- Primary buildings without valid prestige goods still work normally and do not require a prestige good selection.
- You cannot make a company with only one building type.
- You still need 5 levels of the primary building type before a matching company can be established.
- Every custom company has three building types. The first two are chosen through Design Mode, while the third one is selected dynamically.
Design Mode supports multi-select. If you select several building types or prestige goods, the Companies list will show every available custom company matching those selected combinations.
For example, selecting Wood and Cotton as both main and secondary industries can show one company where Wood is primary and another where Cotton is primary, as long as the combinations are valid.
Some goods do not have prestige good variants. This mod only uses prestige goods already defined in the vanilla game files.
Prestige goods are filtered by the selected primary building types. If a primary building can produce a good, every vanilla prestige good for that output good can be selected. For example, grain farms can expose grain, fruit, liquor, and sugar prestige goods, while whaling stations can expose meat and oil prestige goods.
Ownership is selected automatically from vanilla company data, with generic vanilla companies used first where available.
To limit the size of the mod, only certain combinations are allowed. Allowing every possible combination would create millions of companies and could crash the game.
Even with these limits, selecting too many filters at once can still create a very large visible company list. Narrow your selections if the Companies panel becomes slow or unstable.
Extended charters allow all eligible company building types, since you only choose one charter after the company has been established.
