Anbennar – Hytiranyalen Reimagined
A submod for Anbennar, focused on the nation of Hytiranyalen, with a replaced mission tree of 52 missions, 50+ events and many new mechanics for the nation.
- Harpy airships are your artillery and navies, taking flight from the skyport tier 3 roost
- Early artificery mix with magic, exploiting the new magic system
- Forge a new Queendom with unique autonomous vassal play mechanics. Keep the harpy tags alive and free, they are members of Harpylen as much as Hytiranyalen is. The matriarchy vassals retain autonomy and get increasing upgrades and new mechanics depending on their size, while you receive unique bonuses representing their own strengths.
- Conquer two provinces to complete your starting area, then you may play as tall as you’d like, while interacting with tags from Gerudia, South Sarhal and Haless to South Aelantir and Insyaa. Or just blob anyway, the choice is yours.
- Made with coop in mind, harpy allies benefit from the same mechanics as vassal matriarchs. Features slightly modified Nanšalen missions to replace incompatible requirements with flavourful alternative conditions and synergistic rewards, and are included in many shared events.
- Unique heir selection replacing the standard harem, options unlock as the Queendom expands
- Boon-granting repeated events to foster the growth of the matriarchies, advance their lagging techs, share artificery secrets, or build skyports for them, the choice is yours if you have the resources to do so.
- Unlock holy orders representing the various faiths of the Queendom as you bring their flocks under your wing, converting provinces within them will swap religion to their own faith while giving you rewards in return, and change your secondary religion every so-often for temporary buffs.
In ancient times, the revered matriarch Hytiranya split-off from Firanya’s flock to Crathánor, in an effort to be free from the absolutist tendencies of the harpies. The Hytiranyaleni are tolerant, curious and interested in new discoveries following their own Hunt doctrine of the owl. Slaughtered by the human Castan II "Beastbane" millennia ago, they fled back to the Harpy hills and later managed to form the Third Queendom against the threat of Nanšalen, but it fell to the Sun Elven invasion of Jaher.
In 1444, they are reduced to being a vassal of Ayarallen, owning 3 provinces and with an army cap of 4. However they have a few redeeming qualities:
- They are led by Saero Hytiranyau an air-planetouched, just matriarch.
- They have a sick flag and purple colour scheme
- The capital has latent coal
This Mission tree is in two parts, the first being more scenarised and focused on the starting region, ruler and heir, while the second half expands the scope to the whole Halann. You won’t get to form the regular Harpylen though.
I was 40 missions deep into the mod when I learnt of the new official mission tree coming with the Insyaa update. It turns out we went opposite directions, and so I kept working on my version. This is a full replacement, with very few leftovers for compatibility (or because they were too good to miss out on). Do check out the official mission tree, it’s goblins but cooler and with wings, features more regional conquest, goblin shenanigans and cave dwelling with trains!
Nanšalen is the obvious pick as I made edits to their tree for that, and they have sweet shared events (can add Akalšes for a third player but they have no tree for now), Siádan or Mulén, Duwarkani, Naléni, any harpy tag really (except Ayarallen obviously). Seinathil + Vaengheim for a trio should be fun too, as the Valkyries are skalds, both harpy tags can be bardic allies and Queendom members. Most dwarves pair well, Ovdal Tungr + Crathánor and Seghdir + Azka Sur are compatible I believe. Avoid the Jaddari, Birzartanšes and Azka Evran, but any other elf is fine, especially in the Deepwoods. Sadly, the Bahar goblin tags, their formable and their dogs want to delete Hytiranyalen. Avoid demon-worshipping gnolls, as the tree requires total eradication of Zhazobkult in Sarhal at some point.
Queendom mechanics add government reforms (overwrites or gets overwritten by other monarchy reform-adding submods), the new roost is incompatible with other harpy-altering submods (harpy scripted triggers and effects). Perfectly fine with anything else (monuments, ideas, events…). I didn’t remove heir events for Kyraunephe for compatibility, try not to disinherit the poor girl in random events. Place at the bottom of your load order and it should be fine.
- There is an “easy” mode you can toggle during an early event, because the early game can be tough.
- There is also a hard mode, which is going along with Nanšalen’s plan by declaring war to three allied sun elven nations at once after expending all your manpower and contracting 5 loans for your independence. Don’t try to bite more than you can chew.
- End up with crippling debt as your top-of-the-line army is far more expensive, none of your special vassals are taxed, and skyports ain’t cheap
- Skyport owners may ignore coring distance at some point in the mission tree, make good use of your wings!
- A lot of the decisions are designed to work differently whether the target is an AI or a player, meaning the players get to decide when to bother the Harpylen leader for a promotion, a skyport or catching-up in tech.
- Disabling regions is tricky, North-Aelantir, south Sarhal and the whole Serpentspine are unused by the tree, but the rest is sprinkled with harpy tags.
- There are probably some bugs and weird localisation left here and there, tell me and I’ll fix them.
- Many thanks to the Anbennar team for the main mod, and to Paradox for making the game so modable.
