Description:

LotR: Grace of the Firstborn
This is an unofficial sub-mod for Lord of the Rings: Realms-in-Exile

Compatible with Realms-in-Exile 4.3.2 (latest on June 19, 2026)

Please read (still in testing phase):

(1) The mod’s goal is to prevent Elves and "Elf-friends" (Player and AI) from:
  • Imprisoning or executing other characters without justification;
  • Torturing other characters, even during execution;
  • Update: Injuring other characters (blinding, mutilating, castrating) or moving them into dungeons (without deadly justification);
  • Initiating murder schemes or joining murder plots;
  • Unless they possess traits that justify the possibility of these actions, such acts are now restricted to specific events or decisions.
  • Warfare Update (v0.2) – AI-only: Discouraged from starting wars or factions that do not seem appropriate for the character. More information in section (6).
  • Gandalf Update (v0.3): The same effects related to Elves also extend to Gandalf if he still follows a monotheistic faith with "Teachings of the Wise".

(2) The requirements for these limitations are:
  1. The character is an Elf;
  2. The religion is monotheistic;
  3. The religion has the "Grace of the Firstborn" tenet.

(3) Elf-friend:
  • In addition to elves, I have extended the eligibility to any character who is a friend, best friend, lover, or soulmate of an elf belonging to the correct religion (mentioned above)—even if that elf is evil, and even if the character follows a different religion.

(4) Explanation:
  • Inclusion for other races is not based on the character following an elven religion with the correct tenet; that is not the requirement for other races. The concept behind including "elf-friends" is to account for characters who have personal connections to elves—like Aragorn—even if they follow a different religion.

(5) There are seven traits that still allow for these actions:
  • Cynical, Arbitrary, Sadistic, Callous, Deceitful, Vengeful, and Gallowsbait.

(6) Wars and Factions:
  • Elf characters are discouraged from starting wars using casus belli based on claims or de jure rights. The same applies to factions focused on claims, independence, liberty, and dissolution. They are discouraged not only from creating such factions but also from joining existing ones.
  • This discouragement does not apply to certain characters, meaning they may still be targets of wars and factions. These include:
    1. Characters possessing the "seven evil traits" listed in the previous topic;
    2. Characters who have declared war on the elf character;
    3. Characters who have raided lands belonging to the elf character (this exception does not apply to factions);
    4. Characters who have committed an act providing a valid reason for the elf character to execute them;
    5. Characters belonging to a religion considered evil by the main mod.
    6. To ensure compatibility with the core mod, in addition to the requirements listed here for the target, you must have the game rule enabled that limits elven expansion. It is not required for the other limitations.

  • Elf-friend: A similar discouragement was applied to "Elf-friends," though it is less restrictive; it applies only against "good elves and friends," avoiding interference with Aragorn’s expansion or other storylines intended by the main mod.
