Description:

Adds a wooden crossbow you can make and a crossbow you can find.
(For Build 41, which right now is the beta that has to be manually opted into)
(FAQ accuracy below)
This also comes with a patch for Kitsune’s Crossbow Mod.

Crossbow: 2 planks + 2 nails + a tool + level 2 carpentry + (crossbow already invented)
Crossbow string: Twine or Fishing Line
Crossbow Bolts: Sturdy Stick + a tool
Making it quieter: Thread/Twine, Lit Candle.
Inventing a crossbow: 2 planks + 2 nails (The crossbow recipe doesn’t become available until you invent it with 2 planks and 2 nails. The time it takes to invent depends on traits. It’s not a recipe, so you have to right click on one of the items in the inventory)

The different ammunitions do the same damage.

Originally this mod was more simple and I said something about being fine with it being re-uploaded, I imagine legally this still stands, here’s part of the original, however cringe-worthy it may be:
"and I’m fine with it if you want to reupload this in part or in whole without asking first, but as long as u raise awareness of the mandela effect!
I maed this to raise awareness of the Mandela Effect!!111!1 The first results search engines give you for the Mandela Effect aren’t the best. You should be after the really good things seen by about two thousand or two hundred people, rather than the lesser ones seen by a million or so."
Somehow a steel cable on a crossbow snaps in this mod :

FAQ – Accuracy: In Project Zomboid at level 0 or veteran aiming your character misses most of the time using a crossbow, but that’s because I gave it accuracy like the firearms, actually it’s more accurate than the firearms which is a bit unrealistic. The Project Zomboid advert video says something like "what would you do?", although what they’re actually going for is more a difficult challenging game than would be realistic, which is why there are so few tools and tools break after you use them, and your character has low agility. They have also chosen accuracy to be not realistic, but difficult. As well as this though, your character quickly enough learns how to build a house and identify plants, and with a high enough aiming skill your character’s ability can reach real life noob level D: and surpass it and be really good at aiming, so he starts unrealistically inept but can become really skilful and knowledgeable, except still not agile.
PS I just noticed that changing the accuracy of weapons doesn’t change the accuracy of items already generated, which will explain trouble I had testing accuracy, and then people commented on the accuracy being off.

This is a video on the interweb of a person making a crossbow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWiZpenRGx8

This is one of him making a simpler crossbow with a saw and a Stanley knife: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8pivOifGFQ

Ideas for additions to this mod (if or when I get around to it)

Maybe:
Making scopes look right on wooden crossbows with also a better wooden crossbow model (partly done, waiting for me to continue).
Checking if a recent game update caused a glitch with loading bolts from a backpack.
Picking up crossbow bolts after you miss with them
Different sorts of crossbow bolt (Partly done)
A double crossbow with two shots (Possibly redundant with the glichedly low durability fixed?)
A crossbow with a magazine (Partly done)
A crossbow with more power and range that takes longer to reload
A weaker crossbow that is faster to reload
Something like refining a crossbow to reduce its weight
Weighing some wood to find out how much a wooden crossbow weights (Instead of the above?)
A quiver
Changing accuracy (Or maybe not though, given that I’ve still not done this)
Seeing crossbow bolts stuck in zombies after shooting them

Maybe not:
Making crossbow bolts faster with a higher carpentry skill (I think skill at speed at repetitively making the same thing is different to carpentry skill in general. Also it’s a time management decision whether or not to spend time making things to shoot at zombies.)
Making the hovering progress bar when you invent a crossbow visually start where you left off. It already saves progress. (It doesn’t seem possible with Lua)

I made this mod but then I stopped playing Project Zomboid for a long time, but I was adding to this mod despite not playing the game other than to test.

Other mods:

Someone made a mod for this mod so that you can’t make a crossbow, just find it: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2101717776
It says it fixes some icons being double size too and something about the Mandela effect ( 😀 ) PS I identify as singular, not plural.

Someone has made a different crossbow mod (using the Lua code from this one) with some more things, like diverse crossbows and foraging for flax to make the string, and attachments for crossbows like scopes, and with things like changing the string taken out, though he didn’t mention the Mandela Effect despite having used my code from this mod 🙁 and in my opinion the recipes are a bit odd, but perhaps they fit the theme of the game. Kitsune’s Crossbow Mod.

There’s a mod for Kitsune’s Crossbow Mod called Tweaked Kitsune’s Crossbow Mod:
