AGOT: Fire and Blood
A bookmark covering the first century of Targaryen rule.
“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one.”
— George R. R. Martin
The mod currently includes over 400 scripted events across two campaigns:
- Aegon’s Conquest
- The first twenty-five years of Jaehaerys I’s reign
Aegon’s Conquest is fully scripted from Aegon’s POV. Other playable rulers during the Conquest have limited scripted content for now; expanded POVs are planned for future updates.
Major event chains include:
- The Landing
- The founding of the capital
- The Burning of Harrenhal
- The Last Storm
- The Field of Fire
- The Submission of Oldtown
- The First Dornish War
- The life or death of Queen Rhaenys
- The Dragon’s Wroth
- The Peace with Dorne
The AGOT battle system can be unpredictable, especially with dragons. If canon characters die before their time, some scripted events may not fire.
There are safeguards allowing the player to choose the outcome of each war if this happens, but I recommend saving before major battles, especially:
- The Last Storm
- The Field of Fire
- Any battle against Harren Hoare
Also save before special duels, since duel outcomes are not guaranteed to follow canon.
- Orys Baratheon vs. Argilac Durrandon
- Aegon Targaryen vs. Qhorin Volmark
- The Burning of Harrenhal — Aegon must personally lead an army into Harrenhal.
- The Last Storm — Triggers at +30% warscore against Argilac Durrandon.
- The Field of Fire — Triggers at +15% warscore against Mern IX Gardener.
- Dornish War events — Appear as the war progresses.
The invasion of Dorne becomes available after the rest of the Seven Kingdoms are conquered. For the most canon experience, including the birth of Aenys, begin the invasion around 5–6 AC.
The Conquest can diverge in several major ways:
- Spare Harrenhal and allow House Hoare to survive for a time.
- Decide the fate of the Iron Islands.
- Raise House Greyjoy, or place the Iron Islands under the Westerlands or the North.
- Choose the Warden of the West: House Lannister or House Reyne.
- Choose the Warden of the South: House Tyrell, House Peake, or a surviving Gardener.
- Choose the capital: King’s Landing, Dragonstone, Harrenhal, or Oldtown.
- Wage war on the North instead of accepting Torrhen Stark’s submission.
- If the North is conquered, choose between Stark, Bolton, or Manderly rule.
War in the North is dangerous and may bring unforeseen consequences.
Crownlander culture spreads from the chosen capital:
- King’s Landing
- Harrenhal
- Oldtown
- Dragonstone
This currently spawns vanilla AGOT Crownlander culture, a mix of Stormlander and Riverlander culture, even for Harrenhal and Oldtown. A proper customized Crownlander culture for alternate regions will come in a future update.
The first twenty-five years of Jaehaerys I’s reign are scripted, including:
- The regency
- Rogar Baratheon’s defiance
- Jaehaerys and Alysanne’s marriage
- The Doctrine of Exceptionalism
- The births and deaths of the royal children
- Aerea Targaryen and Balerion
- Rhaena Targaryen on Dragonstone
- Androw Farman’s poisonings
- The theft of the three dragon eggs
- The construction of the Dragonpit
- The Shivers
Several Kingsguard deaths happen during Jaehaerys’ scripted events. You can appoint new Kingsguard through the native AGOT system, but canon replacements are scripted to appear through their respective events. If a Kingsguard dies in a scripted event, it is usually better not to replace him immediately if you want the canon sequence to continue cleanly.
The Doctrine of Exceptionalism can be resolved through:
- The Seven Speakers
- A Trial of Seven
- War against the Faith
- Conversion to the Fourteen Flames
Other alternate paths include placing Aerea Targaryen on the Iron Throne and allowing Aegon and Daenerys to survive infancy.
- The Dragonpit — custom Great Project replacing the vanilla building chain.
- King’s Landing — optional visual/building content through a compatch requiring Additional Models and Buildings.

- Canon dragon eggs for historical Targaryen children.
- Lore-accurate pregnancy timing for Rhaenys and Visenya.
- Multiple post-Conquest settlement paths.
Due to the number of events and alternate-history possibilities, bugs and edge cases will be encountered.
Please report issues in the Bug Reports tab on Steam. Reports are most useful with the character played, date, event or war involved, and screenshots.
- The reign of King Aenys I
- The reign of King Maegor I
- Expanded Conquest POVs
- More scripted content for the first century of Targaryen rule
- Customized Crownlander cultures for alternate capital regions
This bookmark is not compatible with:
- Nobility of Westeros
- AGOT+ Canon Children
- AGOT+ Canon Traits and Relationships
The mod may run with these systems enabled, but key scripted and alt-history chains depend on characters, traits, relationships, and children generated by native AGOT systems.
For the intended experience, use the native AGOT Canon Children system and disable conflicting AGOT+ canon systems.
Any bugs involving border gore, incorrect vassalization, title distribution, or similar issues must be reproduced and submitted while running Fire and Blood as a standalone mod.
Other submods may conflict with Fire and Blood, and I do not have the time to cross-test every possible mod combination. Reports involving additional submods cannot be properly investigated unless the issue can also be reproduced without them.
Anyone is welcome to create a compatibility patch if they believe another submod is causing conflicts with Fire and Blood.
These translations are unofficial and maintained independently. I am not responsible for any issues caused by using them.
Nevertheless, I sincerely thank the community members who created and maintain them.
