Welcome to Important Political Events (IPE), a soft overhaul mod on the vanilla map of Europa Universalis IV. After months of development, the name Important Political Events has become a misnomer, for this mod now goes far beyond the scope of events in order to achieve the aims it set out to pursue.

IPE hopes to create more historical gameplay in Europa Universalis IV, through a combination of various methods not limited to adding extensive new disasters, missions, and events; improving mediocre National Idea and adding new National Idea sets; changing lackluster or ahistorical government mechanics; fixing nonsensical culture groups and religions; and rebalancing development across the entire map to be in line with population statistics obtained by means of medieval demography.

The mod is not only balanced for single-player, but also multiplayer, as I am personally an avid fan of multiplayer myself. However, despite Ming having over 2000 development in this mod, and 1200 development being present in the French Region, you will quickly find that countries like Ming and France are not nearly powerful as they may initially seem, and have a number of challenges to overcome in order to make the best of their supposed power.

France in particular has detailed feudal mechanics, with a new subject type called French Fiefs, which behave similarly like Daimyos in the sense that they can declare wars on each other and do diplomacy. However, they can also form alliances and royal marriages with foreign countries, including France’s enemies, and even break free if they accrue more than 100 development in their own lands and that of their subjects. In the course of a game on IPE, you could potentially see a French Fief break away from your control in the same way that Burgundy historically did.

Other major features include:
– Austria split between the Alertine, Ernestine, and Tyrolean branches, to be rejoined by events
– A War of the Roses against tags, and not just ceaseless rebels
– A similar Ottoman Civil War disaster that must be completed before annexing the Mamluks
– AI Ardabil regularly forming Persia
– Reworked conditions for Poland gaining the Elective Monarchy
– Slavery events and colonial charters for focusing New World colonization

This mod is meant for the vanilla map in particular, and therefore it will obviously fail to work with mods like Beyond Typus and Historical Additions Borders+. Moreover, it is not compatible with most mods, including Missions Expanded, as this mod must make its own adjustments to the missions trees to accommodate its own map and mechanics. In due time however, more missions trees and ideas will be added, and you can observe the progress of mod development on this spreadsheet here, which lists all the most important changes made to countries from vanilla: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zgqyA8rJMotqVYFbnk6LOJES2qY3UNPCdoCQCmYcHiY/edit#gid=0
